RIP Mainstream Media

2016 was the year that the MSM died. It lived long past its usefulness, but it’s still haunting us, trying to remain relevant.

During the election, the MSM got caught like a creepy dude exposing himself to a playground full of kindergartners. First of all, their bias against Donald Trump was so blatant they didn’t even try to hide it. One “journalist,” Jim Rutenberg of the New York Times, explained why he thought this was okay in a lengthy, meandering cry for vindication:

“If you view a Trump presidency as something that’s potentially dangerous, then your reporting is going to reflect that. You would move closer than you’ve ever been to being oppositional. That’s uncomfortable and uncharted territory for every mainstream, non-opinion journalist I’ve ever known, and by normal standards, untenable.”

But it went far deeper than bias. They got busted using fake polls to make it look like Clinton was ahead of Trump by light years. They got nailed using Trump’s quotes out of context (like this one about PTSD.) And possibly worst of all, they got outed by Wikileaks in the Podesta emails outright colluding with the Clinton campaign. The list of media spokespersons read like a Who’s Who in American Media: Dan Merica from CNN, Haim Saban of Univision, John Harwood of CNBC and the NY Times, Rebecca Quick of CNBC, Maggie Haberman of NY Times and Politico, John Harris of Politico, Donna Brazile formerly of CNN, Roland Martin of TV-One, Marjorie Pritchard of The Boston Globe, and Louise Mensch of Heat Street. All of this combined brought the MSM to its knees with the lowest trust poll showing in history. Ironically, CNN blamed this mistrust on the Republicans as opposed to their own actions. The government could use the current irrelevance of the MSM to create an Orwellian Ministry of Truth. Expect to see all MSM sources to be state-sponsored mouthpieces in the future.

The Election of Donald Trump

I have to be honest. I never in a million years expected Trump to win. I thought he’d be stopped by either the trashing of the MSM, the rampant cheating of the Democratic party, or his own mouth. I was as stunned as everyone else on election night when finally, an overconfident Hillary Clinton was defeated.

The shock of his election when everyone thought HRC was a shoe-in caused an intense reaction in the “everyone gets a trophy” set.  Riots and protests erupted across the country. There was great weeping and hair-rending by celebrities. Schools fueled the fear of Trump. Some women were so upset that they drew pictures about it. Mean ones.

The left tried to sway the electoral college to change their votes. And since they couldn’t stop him, the opposition has done everything possible to set Trump up for failure during his administration. (Of course, they tried to set him up to lose, too, and that didn’t work out very well.)

Any way you slice it, Trump is a controversial figure who will deal with a lot of adversity during his time in office. Only time will tell if he keeps his campaign promises and if he’ll be able to rescue our doomed economy.  But I think we can agree, his surprise win over conniving Hillary Clinton will change 2017 dramatically.

Russia, Russia, Russia

For some idiotic reason, the US has yearned for a war with Russia for quite some time. (Maybe it’s the billions in blood money that will be made during wartime, huh.)  Obama has tried to provoke Russia via intervention in Syria. He has repeatedly poked the bear, and we were quite close to war back in October. However, when Trump was elected, things began to look up, since he and Putin seem to get along.

But, plot twist.

For everything that went “wrong” this year, they’ve chosen Russia as the scapegoat.

Now Putin and friends are being blamed for everything. Hillary Clinton lost? Russia did it. Wikileaks? Russia did it.  A bunch of major websites taken down? Duh. Russia.

Three warmongering stooges members of Congress went over to stir the pot just this week, and Obama is imposing sanctions, kicking out Russian ambassadors and their families. They’re trying valiantly to get a rise out of Putin before Obama is out of power, and Putin is treating them like buzzing, irrelevant flies and refusing to sink to their level.

The Russia narrative has been used to vault through some legislation called the  “Countering Disinformation and Propaganda Act.” The act could treat independent media sources as traitors by saying they have ties with Russia. (Numerous independent media sources have already been accused of this with an incendiary, baseless report on the Washington Post.) Like I mentioned above, this is an attempt to give back the MSM its relevance by making it the only voice that can be heard. Welcome to state-supported Propagandaland.

Just this week, Drudge Report and Russia Today mysteriously disappeared from the internet briefly, causing people to wonder if the government had silenced them. The act that Obama signed into law could have a grave impact on independent media in the future by silencing any voice of dissent with the accusation of “Russian propaganda.”
