Obama Betrays Americans Again…with the Monsanto Protection Act

Of course, it’s hard to honestly expect President Barack Obama to do the right thing, but many people held out hope that he would veto the most dangerous food act ever to pass the US Congress.  After all, one of his campaign promises the first time around was to enforce the labeling of GMOs.  His wife has that famous organic garden on the White House lawn.  We can trust the Obamas, right?

Wrong.

Yesterday, that slender hope,  the hope that Obama might finally do something for the good of the people instead of the good of the special interest groups that donate heavily to his campaigns, was dashed.  Obama, once again, showed that he is for sale to the highest bidder – and this time that bidder is Monsanto.  Despite a petition that garnered over 250,000 signatures in just a few days, he signed the Monsanto Protection Act into law, completely ignoring the wishes of the people.  In fact, a press release has not even been issued by the White House to give the impression that the highly successful petition was considered.

Food Democracy Now has not given up the battle, however:

We regret to inform you that late last night President Barack Obama signed H.R. 933, which contained the Monsanto Protection Act into law. President Obama knowingly signed the Monsanto Protection Act over the urgent pleas of more than 250,000 Americans who asked that he use his executive authority to veto it. President Obama failed to live up to his oath to protect the American people and our constitution.

Today we’re calling on President Obama to issue an executive order to call for the mandatory labeling of genetically engineered foods.

Not only is GMO labeling a reasonable and common sense solution to the continued controversy that corporations like Monsanto, DuPont and Dow Chemical have created by subverting our basic democratic rights, but it is a basic right that citizens in 62 other countries around the world already enjoy, including Europe, Russia, China, India, South Africa and Saudi Arabia.

Join us in demanding mandatory labeling of GMO foods. Now’s the time!

Please take a moment to click the links above and get involved.  We’ve lost the battle, but not the war.   I’m personally pledging at least one article  per week about Monsanto, their incestuous relationship with the government and their toxic grip on agriculture.  I urge everyone to raise a deafening public outcry – every voice adds to the noise that we can create.  Let’s make a noise that cannot be ignored.

The Monsanto Protection Act was slipped quietly through the Congress, in the usual devious manner.  Officially called the  Farmer Assurance Provision, the resolution puts Monsanto, with all their toxins like the cheerfully dubbed Agent Orange and Round-up, as well as their genetically modified monstrosities, beyond the reach of the judicial system.  The courts cannot stop the death brokering company from growing crops deemed to be potentially dangerous.  (Ummm….that would be ALL OF THEM that have been produced by the Monsanto mad science club.)

If ever there was a company that embodied evil, it would be the Monsanto Company.  Last year I wrote about the company:

The combination of unfettered corporate greed, a eugenics agenda and corrupt political manipulation forms an unholy trinity that could make Monsanto the real Cyberdyne Systems.  In the Terminator movies, Cyberdyne Systems created the artificial intelligence computer system Skynet, which destroyed most life on earth and forced survivors to live underground.

Proving once again that fact is indeed as strange as fiction, the Monsanto Company could single handedly cause TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It).   Read more at  Monsanto: The Real Cyberdyne

Horrifyingly, this is just another step towards the science fictionesque predictions that I wrote about.

While most people are constrained by morals, that clearly doesn’t apply with Monsanto.  Now, they aren’t even limited by fear of prosecution.

Pandora’s Box is unlocked, Obama just propped open the lid, and there’s no way to cram the evil back in.

Who else is responsible for this disaster?  The senator who put the Monsanto rider on the bill…meet Sen. Roy Blunt: Monsanto’s Congressional Judas

  1. President has no power for line-item-veto http://www.politicususa.com/congress-sequester-crisis-slip-corporate-give-monstanto.html Blame the Congress that you allowed to be in there by not voting in 2010…so….vote in 2014…then that herd of crooks.

    • Andrew says:

Thank you for posting this! Some people will never let the facts get in the way of a good story…

    • steve Hughes says:

The only crooks in congress area the liberals that are actually Communist party!!!”

    • RaDonna Marshall says:

I am having trouble even finding this bill HR933 or Monsanto Protection Act. I understand it was a ‘rider’ on a farm bill. If you search the HR933 bill the word Monsanto is not in it.
Have also heard comments from congressmen who voted and said they never knew ‘that’ was in it. Apparently they are correct as far as the bill. So how DO you get a ‘rider’ in? Here is the bill which is now Public Law 113, see reference to HR933 in left column.

Can anyone help me find the wording regarding the Monsanto Protection Act???

      • Daisy Luther says:

It is not actually called the Monsanto Protection Act. It is simply called Section 735 of HR 933.

  2. Susan Mayer says:

I don’t see how I can support Obama or Any Dem GMO supporter!

  3. eric says:

Raise your own meat and veggies people!!!

    • RaDonna Marshall says:

Over simplification for the solution. You cannot raise your own animals to slaughter. You can however still hunt although it is against health dept. laws to distribute or sell ‘wild game’. Many areas you cannot have chickens for eggs and cannot share eggs and certainly not raw milk with anyone else.
If you think the obvious is growing a garden. Think again. City and County ordinances and laws will prevent you from growing a garden. If you are in a suburb you may get a small patch in the back not the front yard. Now you need to be concerned about your neighbors using pesticides and other chemicals that are air borne or seep threw top soil.
What we took for granted being an individual right is no longer. Very sad and dangerous.

  4. James Parker says:

    Repeal!

  5. Angie says:

I don’t support Obama or any GMO supporter

  6. Barbara Mincher says:

please please let’s get Obama impeached, ,lets all get together and meet somewhere march to the White House let’s do something it’s getting scary now

  7. brenda vanicek says:

all i have to say is oboma is paving the way for the anti christ. if he can’t sell america to the higgest bidder he will slowly have us killed by what we eat and drink
    and no medical

  8. Jack says:

Dear lord, this is way too sensationalist a piece. Comparing companies to Skynet/Cyberdyne when there is no correlation. Also, genetically modified stuff isn’t inherently bad you know. I know we all LOVE to hear the word ‘organic’ but studies have shown that GMOS aren’t dangerous.
Also, 250,000 signatures mean nothing. No one has to listen to 250,000 signees. Especially as its not a majority at all.

But I understand your point. But try to write with more info and less emotional sensational stuff. Most of this is “Oh, look, it’s Satan and he’s being evil” and not enough information. You could have talked more about Monsanto. Like: Why do you think it’s sci-fiesque (which, if you don’t mind me saying, also isn’t a negative term).

“Monsanto, their incestuous relationship with the government and their toxic grip on agriculture.”
Incestous is used incorrectly. Also, nothing toxic about GMO’s for the most part.

    • Bill says:

Yea, studies probably funded by Monsanto. Don’t suppose that they’re biased.

    • elizabeth says:

      AGREED! Well said!

    • Dave says:

Jack, you had better do some research. There is nothing sensational about this article except the subject. I suggest that you visit this website, http://www.responsibletechnology.org/gmo-education and learn a little something about your so-called “studies have shown that GMOS aren’t dangerous.”

    • Grasshopper says:

JACK, YOU’RE COMPLETELY WRONG ON THIS ONE!! PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS BELOW ABOUT FRANKENSEEDS VERSUS OLD WAY OF ENGINEERING SEEDS… BIG DIFFERENCE!

Furthermore, I have personally talked to a man from Germany who walked in protest over this issue– he and others walked FROM WASHINGTON, D.C. TO WILMINGTON, DELAWARE! to try to raise awareness of this issue. He and others walked THOUSANDS OF MILES in Germany over this same issue. In Germany, they finally got their government to ban these crops. However, here in the U.S., he said there is no way our government will ban them because of the incestuous relationship between corporations and politician. What he was hoping for was for the government to AT LEAST label the crap!

    • Melissa Ramos says:

Injecting viruses and bacteria into DNA is dangerous. Do you really need a “scientific study” funded by the FDA to tell you that?? Of course they will tell you GMO’s are safe…they make billions of dollars per year off of us. Not only does Monsanto profit off our our purchases of GMO foods, they also profit when their seeds contaminate organic crops. Then, they sue the farmer for the rights to their fields. Every 30 seconds, a farmer commits suicide because of genetic engineering. Secondly, the FDA profits off of the astronomically high rates of disease that GMO’S cause. Since 1996, cancer, auto-immune illness, autism, diabetes, digestive disorders and other strange disorders have increased exponentially. Start reading NON FDA FUNDED RESEARCH and stop making excuses because you’re brainwashed, literally, by mainstream science and media. Why is our country riddled with cancer? 1 out of 3 people get cancer in this country, yet even INDIA has lower cancer rates. Many other countries have banned GMO’S. Perhaps their scientists aren’t being paid off to say that GMO’S are safe! Common sense is required when looking at genetic engineering. It just can’t be good for us or the planet. The seeds only germinate once. Monsanto forced farmers that use their seeds to spray round-up. They must sign yearly contracts PROMISING to use round up and GMO seeds. Please, please take this issue much more seriously. It’s so easy to glaze over it and say that GMO’S are safe.

  9. Debie says:

While I find it easy to blame the president, in fact this article discusses the Senator who actually “snuck” the provision in. And it wasn’t the President.. http://www.salon.com/2013/03/27/how_the_monsanto_protection_act_snuck_into_law/

  10. gene henson says:

6 acre piece of land here. I am looking for heirloom seeds and plants to feed myself with.

It would be nice if as citizens of a Democratic country we could influence our Governments actions. With the technology we have today, it would be simple enough to address yes/no issues from a vote booth allowing us to guide our Government instead of our Government demanding from us.

    • Carl Clingman says:

This is a good question …how can we influence our Congress? Many of the the obstructionists to progress on issues like line item vetoes and eliminating earmarks and unrelated appropriations are from states who’s electorates support their elected officials. No matter how backward the idea is to the rest of the country. How do the rest of us write letters to representatives of other states and coax their legislators out of the stone ages?

  11. Eric Lester says:

Hr933 is the continual resolution if Obama did not sign it the government would not be funded. He had no choice the fact are the persons to blame are the member or Members of congress that put it in to the bill. This is how special interest groups sneak harmful legislation in to law. All it takes is bribing one congressman or senator to attach it to the funding bill. The bill also undid the sequester for some vital services. A line item veto and a law banning earmarks would take care of these problems. Hr933 is a thousand plus page document part d funds homeland security. read in to facts before placing blame Obama needed this to have a chance to get the immigration reform he wants.

  12. ThomasT says:

So don’t buy anything that you suspect is GMO. You don’t need cereal for breakfast that’s also 40% sugar, you dont need to eat unfermented soy, organic or not, as its highly toxic, read ‘Soy Alert’ Weston Price Foundation. Heck that’s the big 2 already.

  13. Mr. Obama says:

Solutions: stop bitching. Move to England. Go get a cat, cats are nice. The sooner you realize you can’t stop me the smoother the ride will be.

  14. Bobby says:

Do you want to know what all of this proves to conservatives that have always felt the LEFT CONSISTED OF A BUNCH OF PHONIES? It proves the left consists of a bunch of phonies, simple as that? No protests agains their guy, just B.S. talk still blaming Bush(We all know Bush did criminal things). The left instead, will usher in a new era of totalitariansim. Where are Michel Moore, Amy Goodman, Barbara Striesand, Martin Sheen, etc. and the rest of them anyway? PHONIES!!

  15. Justanobservation says:

Whenwas the filibuster regarding this bill?

  16. Justanobservation says:

When was the filibuster regarding this bill?

  17. helen says:

the only way ur going to get any action is the people walk the streets and i dont mean a few hundred thousand i mean millions. otherwise you’re all effed

  18. Andrew says:

Obama is the problem here. He has done this with every issue that has been presented to him. And the most unfortunate thing is that he’s doing it to take the attention of the American people off the Obama administration and the DHS (Department of Homeland Security). This has been the biggest issue on my mind lately. Obama NEEDS to be impeached. If something is not done about him soon, none of us will live to vote about issues such as this one. I urge you to search online for any petition that can be signed to stop him and impeach him. They ARE out there. I’ve signed at LEAST a dozen in the last ten days. Speak UP people. Make the difference this country needs!

  19. Just vote for 99%ters or field yourself if you are a 99%ter. The issue is choice if candidates. And 99% people are not there as choice, and the 99% do not even vote for that 99%ter if they are there. If you see a politician worth millions and billions, there is something wrong. Also if more than 1-2 terms, avoid.

  20. Carl Clingman says:

Whoa Nellie! Virtually every privately and commercially grown agricultural plant is genetically engineered. The President probably felt it was a ridiculous petition. And he’d be right! According to Ag News, a citizen objection to milk producers adding aspartame to milk products without required labels was successful and milk producers are acquiescing. So, petitions do work in the right places.

    • Dave says:

So you would not be opposed to buying milk products that were not labeled? Do you know what aspartame does to the human body? Your logic is not sound…

      • Jah says:

Reread Carl’s comment, Dave. The citizen objection to aspartame was successful…which he used as an example of a petition working. Clearly, he would be opposed. Just saying.

  21. Nick says:

Seriously, fuck my peers with something rough and sand-papery.

Obama is the executive branch, and he’s basically sent this back and has been working on these budgets with these assholes for ages, the republicans in congress threw this in and it’s what has been passed, getting a vote like that through is so difficult, there wasn’t much he could do but accept it and possibly move on. Or else you’d hear the non-eco side of the liberal demographic saying that he didn’t get anything done and people would be blaming him for everything they could.
Why the fucking Joker face? That’s a mass murdering psychopath aligned with chaotic evil and you’re going to liken him to the family man that runs the country? God Damn. oh no SOCIALISTS, that’s how the first instance of this picture was used. They were trying to tell us how terrible it was that Americans were going to be insured, and that social services like firehouses, police stations, school systems, and public hospitals were all terrible things…

    Really?

Slap yourself on the face and look at your real enemy. Face him head on, and go after that one. See you allies, and know they must make sacrifices.

  22. Jessica says:

First things first, look up the definition of impeach people, it is not to remove the president out of office, it is to charge the president with a crime. If you wanted to get rid of him the term would be recall. Ask Arnold schwarzenegger how that worked out for him. Now, I don’t like Obama, actually I hate him. I didn’t vote for him in 2008 and sure as hell didn’t vote for him in 2012. I find it so funny how everywhere I read how much everyone dislikes Obama but somehow he got voted in, twice. As for the GMO it’s very said Ed have to worry about things like that in such a great country being ruined by men like Obama.

  23. Grasshopper says:

Recently it was discovered that about 50% of bees–which are needed to pollinate our crops- had died off this past year…yes! 50% loss of bees in one year! And what did they discover was the reason for this scary phenomena? They think its from the bees going to corn crops which are laden with inborn pesticides (GMO crops) and consuming the toxic crap. So Monsanto is not only killing off half the population with their Frankenseeds, they are also killing off the bees! (No bees, no food for us!) Collapsenet.com had an article about this recently.

  24. Grasshopper says:

Carl, I assume you haven’t seen the videos on the Internet of what happens to rats fed GMO foods– Scientists did tests on the effects of this and showed the results…I’ve seen the results and it is very scary!!! The first 3 months there was very little change but after that– well, you may not want to look–pretty horrible.

Of course, scientists have always done some sorts of engineering with plants to make them more productive, to not have thorns, or whatever, and that has been good. A scientist by the name of Bose comes to mind and he did excellent work.

What we’re talking about here is a quite difference! GMO crops are produced from Frankenseeds– where the gene of a plant is spliced and joined with the gene of another species– say, fish and greenbean, for example, with inborn pesticide added: a REAL FRANKENSTEIN SEED!

  25. Me says:

Obama and his family should be force fed Monsanto!!!
