In a terrifying brush with violence, the administrators of Schall Elementary School in Caro, Michigan have boldly done what was necessary in order to protect a classroom of vulnerable 3rd graders.

They have taken a little boy’s birthday cupcakes and confiscated those frosted harbingers of evil.

Why?  you may be asking yourself.  Oh my gosh, were the cupcakes poisoned?  Were there razor blades baked inside of them, fiendishly awaiting the opportunity to cut little mouths?

No.  It’s WORSE.

They had plastic green army guys on them. With plastic green GUNS.  Can you imagine the fear the class must have felt when the container of cupcakes was opened and they saw all those GUNS aimed at them?  Can you imagine the terror?  There’s no time for a lockdown!  Those cupcakes are IN THE CLASSROOM.  They must have been simply paralyzed with fear.

Principal Susan Wright released a statement to local media defending the decision.

“These are toys that were commonplace in the past,” she wrote. “However, some parents prohibit all guns as toys. In light of that difference, the school offered to replace the soldiers with another item and the soldiers were returned home with the student.”

“Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,” she stated. “In the climate of recent events in schools we walk a delicate balance in teaching non-violence in our buildings and trying to ensure a safe, peaceful atmosphere.”

Principal Wright explained in her statement that she meant no disrespect to the military.

“By not permitting toy soldiers on cupcakes at school, no disrespect for our military or for the brave men and women who defend our rights to have our differences was intended,” she wrote. “Our commitment is always to our children and creating a safe place for them to learn, grow and have respectful dialogues about their differences.”  (source)

This incident follows closely after a boy was suspended for biting his Pop Tart in the shape of a gun.

Stop and think for a moment the type of children we are creating with actions like this. Political correctness has run amok.

We are teaching kids:

…That inanimate objects are scary.

…That generalizations like “zero tolerance” rules are more important than critically thinking about a situation.

…That guns are so evil anything that even represents a gun should be thrown away.

…That they should be fearful of anything outside a narrow set of liberal parameters.

Although the principal of the school defended her position and discussed having  respectful dialogues about differences, I don’t really see any dialogue here.  I see nothing but brainwashing.  I see an action that caused a big hullabaloo about nothing on a little boy’s birthday.  I see a media-driven agenda to create a generation of children who will never resist and who will accept anything that falls under the umbrella of being “for their own safety.”

Schools are no longer about learning math, reading and history.  Schools have become nothing more than indoctrination centers.  They aren’t teaching children HOW to think. They’re teaching them WHAT to think.  They’re teaching them to blindly accept authority and to allow themselves to be protected.

What happens on the day these kids need to protect themselves and there’s no benevolent principal around to take the army guys off the cupcakes?

The schools are training a society of victims. Don’t let your child be one of them.

  • I wish I didn’t have to admit that this story took place in my TV viewing area (not my city). My teenage son and I heard it on the local news last night. Talk about eye-rolling. We couldn’t believe this “made the news”. Children eating a treat.

Dr. James Dobson said years ago in his book, “Bringing Up Boys”, that a Boys can take anything and turn it into a weapon.
Take a peanut butter sandwich. Inevitably, they will eat a quarter of it and then hold the sandwich like a gun at some point. Are we now expected to take protein away from them, too?

  • I just wanted to write in response to your piece on the “little toy soldiers” on the cupcakes…maybe that school, same school I worked for, my ex husband still works for and my children attend…they should worry more about security in their schools and protection and safety of their students and staff before worrying about cupcake toppers…surely they have better, more important things to put their time into. Let’s go back to a hostage situation and an attack on 4 employees at one of their schools where a student brought a gun into a school (that same district) and took hostages, and then killed himself. Another time (same district) an intruder made his way into a school building and assulted and nearly killed four employees…what a tramatic experience that I will add…I will never forget.

I went to school, and am personal friends with the Fountain’s and I can say that their family is respectable and pleasant with pleasant and polite children. Both of whom offer their support to the US Military…with no ill intent to be “innapropriate”. It just makes me ill that this school continues to be “in the news” and somehow can’t get their Sh** together.

My very own son got sent home from that school for playing with green little army guys and making “shooting/exploding” sounds as if no boy has ever done that, and certainly didn’t think he’d get sent home from school for…neither did I…I have two sons and everyone knows little boys play with soldiers. He was 6.

    • Sarah – that is simply unbelievable. I had no idea this school had previous REAL issues.

And you know, I have girls and they blew stuff up with their Barbies. They played “detective” and ran around with toy guns. This is simply out of control, and it’s ridiculous that this nice family and this little boy were singled out. I’m glad that they didn’t just accept it and that they’ve stood up for what’s right and pointed out this new absurdity.

  • “Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,”

Where was the respect for this opposing opinion? This action was absolute censorship. It also indicates that there are few, if any, adults in administrative position in the nations schools.

  • Yes, this is completely sad in my opinion. When teachers and staff wanted to get “help” after being attacked and nearly killed that same school basically forced us to go to people “from our town” a whole whomping 400+ people where everyone knows everyone and expected our information to be kept confidential…right!!! I knew people in that department that was going around telling all sorts of people. I wanted to go outside of the area…say Saginaw/Bay City and it wasn’t covered. Also…they allowed a parole officer (to the attacker) to come to my school and harrass me. She walked into the building and right off the bat started going on about the incident and her “client” as if I wanted to hear that only a month or less after it happened. It wasn’t executed with any grace or compassion, intelligence or sympathy…just stupidity.

The school basically shits on the kids that attend their alternative education department, treating them as if they themselves killed someone, or that they AND their staff have diseases. The school district would much rather forget about them then allow them to actually be part of the school system. It used to be that years would go by before the superintendant would even come to the school to look around. As long as they get their count money who gives a damn about the actual kid. They can’t bring cupcakes to school with army guys but can wear next to nothing clothing and shirts that say things like “Juicy” or other profane words. It all depends on who you know and how well. I know all of this with certainty because I worked there and my children attend there. I put up with all sorts of hell from that place.

They should worry about who comes inside that school ALL OF THEM. They should worry about teaching kids reading, writing, math, english, and so on and stop pretending to be “god” or “the ones that know it all” most times these principals barely have the credentials to be such…I worked for one of those. Whom make decisions based on their own opinions before their guide books or school regulations. Making up rules as they go and rarely even sharing those rule changes with staff. Get it together people!! Spend more time worrying about safety and happiness of the student body and the people that are allowing their children to attend their school, be thankful and protect them as they are not required to go to your school they do so by choice. They still don’t have security for their schools, and not much has changed since the grusome attack and suicide took place in our school district so I have no choice but to be completely gobsmacked that little army men are now a source of “evil” or “violence” you better take a look at some of the books in the library, take better care in what type of activity is done on the computers in the lab, how many kids are smoking joints or worse or drinking on school grounds. What type of shit you are scooping out at lunch time….things with a little more relevance to protecting our children and their future. Why can they go to laser tag on field trips? Isn’t that pointing something at someone? Why do they have military speakers, yet an army man can’t be on a cupcake? I could go on forever. I just feel that that school should apologize to that family for this act of judgement in haste and stop defending their action just because now it’s in the news. Buck up and apologize because you KNOW you did something wrong, not be too proud to say anything because of how it will look to your friends and co-workers…do the right thing. Holy shit right!!!?? Unbelieveable!

  • Sure, go ahead and LAUGH! Laugh! Because YOU don’t know the facts. My own son, little Bobby, was THERE! He came home crying, ‘Daddy, they were scary ARMY MEN and they had BAD GUNS! The teacher had us all hide under our desks. It was just like the place where all the kids were shot, and we were AFRAID!” I have taken Bobby to a special child psychologist who was kindly recommended by Seantors Durtbag and Finkelstein, who says that Bobby is scarred for life! He will never get into Harvard now because he suffers from PLGAMWGT ! ( Post Little Green Army Men With Guns Trauma ) So laugh, but don’t think for a minute that those of us whose children were damaged by this horrific event, are laughing! ( sniff. sniff. Someone hand me a hanky, Are the cameras rolling? My left side is my good side. How is my hair? )

  • “It is pathetically SAD that this is the state of our schools.”

Well, they are not “our” schools, are they? They belong to those who control them, the government educrats.

People, why do you still hand your kids over to these idiots? Have you no concern for their welfare? Did you know that homeschooling is actually EASIER than using the government schools? What is keeping you in them anyway, inertia?

  • Schools seem to not teach what is important and think for yourself to get answers but more like you will think this way good little Adolph..what a bunch of no mind teachers and school system that is

  • “Living in a democratic society entails respect for opposing opinions,”
WARNING WARNING! This is another example of the manipulation taking place. Politicans and others (like this school principal) have deviously injected this false “democracy ideal” into conversation for so long now that people just accept or even believe it. The founding fathers created a REPUBLIC. NOT a democracy. There is a difference.
A Republic is representative government ruled by law (the Constitution). A democracy is direct government ruled by the majority (mob rule). A Republic recognizes the inalienable rights of individuals while democracies are only concerned with group wants or needs (the public good). For more info please see:

  • Crazy stuff. We had toy soldiers when I was a kid. Sadly, it took me quite a while to become anti-war.

At what age should we teach children that wars kill children? Wars destroy infrastructure that provides clean water and fresh food.

  • How about letting the parents decide these types of issues, the school cant teach reading ant writing to 12th graders, they have no business in our cupcakes!
