Five Reasons Why I’ll Never Get a Flu Shot

If you’re looking for a deeply scientific treatise on the flu shot, this isn’t it.

I’m not a chemist, a physician or someone with an advanced degree in biology.  I’m just a mom with an internet connection.  I’m a person who has researched and compiled an assortment of worrisome facts that point in one direction: the flu shot is NOT beneficial.

Some of these reasons are backed up by science, and others are an acceptance of that little voice of reason whispering “Something just isn’t right about this.”  As a reader, you are welcome to take my personal instinct with a grain of salt.  I strongly encourage you to do your own independent research and come to your own conclusions. Look for sources that are not linked to the dollars being earned from these flu shots – no Big Pharma funded studies, no CDC, no FDA.  Check out the funding for the studies that you cite and then judge the findings accordingly.

First of all, it just doesn’t work.

The propaganda machine will tell you that the flu shot is “60% effective”, but this is a blatant manipulation of the statistics.  This article published last year at Natural News  explains how the numbers are “massaged” to present the picture that Big Pharma (who funds the research) wants presented.  In actuality, the flu shot prevents the flu in only 1.5 out of 100 adults.  You can wade through the abstract at The Lancet here.

1.5%.  Let that sink in.  That means that you have a 98.5% chance it WON’T work.  Why would anyone possibly have something foreign injected into his or her body with those odds?

Part of the reason it is ineffective it because it’s guesswork.  Scientists must attempt to predict which 3 viruses (of the over-300 influenza viruses that have been identified) will be the most prevalent during a given year. If you get the flu shot and are then exposed to virus #4-300, you will have no additional immunity to those.

Natural News just published an article yesterday that tells us many of the people being struck down in the current epidemic have received vaccinations, which clearly did not have the desired effect.

Secondly, there are horrible things in the flu shot.

The flu shot contains some incredibly nasty stuff.  Obviously it contains the virus itself, either “dead” or “attenuated” (weakened).  But it also contains a host of other harmful toxins.  The inclusion of these toxins is not speculation – you can read the CDC’s ingredients lists of the common vaccines in the United States HERE. Following is a little primer giving some information on the toxic ingredients that you can find in the CDC’s ingredients lists. Take the time to cross-match these toxins to the vaccine that is given in your area.  You have the right to request the ingredients insert before you take the vaccine or subject your child to it.

  • 2-Phenoxyethanol is an anti-bacterial agent being used as a replacement for the preservative Thimerosal (mercury). It’s considered a very toxic material that could cause a boatload of side effects, including behavioral disorders … vomiting … diarrhea … visual disturbances … convulsions … rapid heart rate … central nervous system disorders … depression … kidney, liver and blood disorders … and reproductive defects.
  • Aluminum shows up in vaccines in many forms – like aluminum phosphate, aluminum hydroxy phosphate sulfate and aluminum hydroxide, to name a few. It works as an “adjuvant” to stimulate your immune system’s response to the virus in the vaccine.  The problem is … aluminum is a particularly dangerous neurotoxin. It has the ability to slip past your body’s natural defenses and enter your brain – potentially causing brain damage … Alzheimer’s disease … dementia … convulsions … and coma. Human and animal studies have shown that aluminum can even cause nerve death.
  • Ammonium Sulfate is a substance commonly added to pesticides. It’s not known at this time if it’s cancer-causing, but it has been suspected of gastrointestinal, liver, nervous system and respiratory system toxicity.
  • Beta-Propiolactone ranks high as a hazardous chemical on at least five federal regulatory lists. It caused lymphomas and hepatomas after being injected into lab mice, but its true effect on humans is not known. Due to animal study results, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified beta-propiolactone as a possible human carcinogen.
  • Formaldehyde is used as a preservative to stabilize the vaccine. It’s a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling chemical that’s mostly used in industry to manufacture building materials and produce many household products. Plus, it’s also used to embalm – and preserve – dead bodies. (Remember the frog in your high school biology lab?)  Formaldehyde is suspected of weakening the immune system and causing neurological system damage … genetic damage … metabolic acidosis (excessive blood acidity) … circulatory shock … respiratory insufficiency … and acute renal (kidney) failure. It’s been classified as a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing substance) by IARC and is ranked as one of the most hazardous compounds on at least eight federal regulatory lists.
  • Formalin helps preserve the vaccine. It’s a mixture of formaldehyde, methanol and water. It’s mostly used to preserve tissue samples in health care laboratories and presents the same danger to your health as formaldehyde does.
  • Gentamicin Sulfate is an antibiotic that ‘s been known to cause deafness or loss of equilibrioception (sense of balance). It can also be highly nephrotoxic (damage your kidneys) if multiple doses accumulate over time.
  • Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) excites and poisons your cells and tissues. It’s used as a stabilizer in vaccines and is also found in many processed foods.  MSG has been shown to cause retinal degeneration … behavior disorders … learning disabilities … reproductive disorders … obesity … and even lesions on the brains of lab animals. Allergic reactions to MSG can be severe.
  • MRC-5 Cellular Protein is human diploid cells taken from aborted human fetuses. They’re used as a culture to grow the virus.
  • Neomycin is an antibiotic that has been shown to have multiple effects on your body. It can be a neurotoxin and an ototoxin (affect hearing and balance). It also can cause respiratory paralysis, kidney damage and kidney failure. Plus, it retards your vitamin B6 absorption, sometimes leading to mental retardation and epilepsy. Some allergic reactions to neomycin can be life threatening.
  • Octoxinol-9 is a vaginal spermicide.
  • Phenol is included in vaccines to help stimulate immune response. Instead, it does the opposite – by inhibiting phagocytic activity. Phagocytes are your body’s first line of defense. They engulf and digest antigens and activate the other elements of your immune system. Phenol’s phagocytic-inhibiting effect actually hinders your immune system from properly dealing with the pathogens that are entering your body through the vaccine.
  • Phenol is used in the production of drugs, weed killers and synthetic resins, so you can imagine the effect it has on the human body. It’s considered to be toxic to your cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nervous, reproductive and respiratory systems … your liver … your kidneys … and your skin.  Phenol is so deadly that is was used by the Nazis as a means of extermination during the World War II. Phenol injections were given to thousands of people in concentration camps – especially at Auschwitz-Birkenau – to kill those who were mentally ill, had incurable tuberculosis and were permanently incapable of work.
  • Polymyxin B is an antibiotic with some nasty side effects – neurotoxicity and acute renal tubular necrosis (the most common cause of kidney failure).
  • Polysorbate 80 (Tween-80) works as a stabilizer in the vaccine. It’s used in a wide variety of products including ice cream, milk products, vitamin tablets, lotions and creams and medical products like vaccines and anti-cancer medications. But it’s not as safe as it sounds. According to the December 2005 issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, polysorbate 80 can affect your immune system and cause severe anaphylactic shock, which can kill. It also causes cancer in animals.
  • Streptomycin is an antibiotic. Its main side effect is ototoxicity – the loss of hearing.
  • Thimerosal is used as a preservative in the vaccine. It contains 49.6% mercury by weight and has been implicated in many health conditions, such as cardiovascular disease … autism … seizures … mental retardation … hyperactivity … dyslexia … and many more nervous system conditions.  The mercury used in vaccines is second in toxicity only to the radioactive substance, Uranium. It’s a powerful neurotoxin that can damage the entire nervous system of an infant in no time.
  • Plus, the inclusion of aluminum and even formaldehyde with the mercury in the vaccine magnifies the problem. Aluminum can make the mercury 100 times more toxic. Toss in formaldehyde as well, and one independent study found that mercury toxicity was increased by 1,000 times.

There is a risk of terrible side effects.

I’d honestly rather take my chances with the flu than to have myself injected with something that carries the risk of such side effects on the off-chance (the 1.5% off-chance) that I might avoid catching the 1% of viruses that the shot “protects” me from.

The CDC itself warns:

Mild Problems

  • soreness, redness, or swelling where the shot was given
  • hoarseness; sore, red or itchy eyes; cough
  • fever
  • aches
  • headache
  • itching
  • fatigue

If these problems occur, they usually begin soon after the shot and last 1-2 days.

Moderate Problems

Young children who get inactivated flu vaccine and pneumococcal vaccine (PCV13) at the same time appear to be at increased risk for seizures caused by fever. Ask your doctor for more information.

Tell your doctor if a child who is getting flu vaccine has ever had a seizure.

Severe Problems

  • Life-threatening allergic reactions from vaccines are very rare. If they do occur, it is usually within a few minutes to a few hours after the shot.
  • In 1976, a type of inactivated influenza (swine flu) vaccine was associated with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Since then, flu vaccines have not been clearly linked to GBS. However, if there is a risk of GBS from current flu vaccines, it would be no more than 1 or 2 cases per million people vaccinated. This is much lower than the risk of severe influenza, which can be prevented by vaccination.

But what they don’t tell you is that not all adverse reactions are reported and that when they are, the statistics are doctored to keep the do-good reputation of the shot untarnished.

In searching the year 2011 on the CDC Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System website - (http://vaers.hhs.gov/index) – it was found that 51 deaths were caused by the flu vaccines, along with 232 life threatening events, 116 permanent disabilities, 739 hospitalizations, 109 prolonged hospitalizations, 4,039 ER visits, and 6,221 “not serious” reports. According to the National Vaccine Information Centerfewer than one percent of all adverse vaccine reactions are ever reported

Also, consider cases like that of Desiree Jennings, the Washington Redskins cheerleader who suffered a paralyzing nerve disorder after receiving her seasonal flu shot.  Not only did the industry refuse to compensate her for her trauma and enormous medical bills, vicious attempts were made to publically discredit her.

Jennings was a fit and healthy cheerleader up until August when she got a seasonal flu shot. Ten days after the shot she began experiencing flu like symptoms, followed by severe convulsions and black outs. After seeing around 60 doctors, Jennings was eventually diagnosed with dystonia, a paralyzing neurological disorder that causes the muscles to relentlessly contract and spasm, causing extreme difficulties with walking, talking and general body movements.

Despite the fact that doctors who vigorously examined her condition at both Fairfax Inova and Johns Hopkins confirmed that she was suffering from dystonia, and that the cause of the illness was her reaction to the flu shot, numerous apologists for big pharma have ludicrously claimed that her story is a hoax and that her disease is imaginary, citing no evidence whatsoever and having had no contact with Jennings at all.

Next, I do not trust  the FDA.

FDA approval means less than nothing to me.  If the FDA approves it, it just means that the company behind it has enough money and clout to get it approved.  I do not trust  the FDA to look out for the best interests of me, my children, or anyone else’s children, for that matter.  I wrote an article last year regarding the FDA and here are some of the observations that really show the agenda of the agency:

  • The FDA wants to be in control of ALL things ingested by the American people. The FDA is simply an enforcing tentacle of the big business organized crime syndicate that actually runs the United States.
  • The FDA can overlook the horrible side effects and suicides caused by anti-depressant pharmaceuticals while attempting to ban the sale of St. John’s Wort, a remedy that has been used successfully for hundreds of years.
  • The FDA can bypass the deadly e-coli outbreaks occurring in massive factory farms where the animals are squeezed in so compactly that they can’t turn around, but they want to prosecute an organic farmer for using manure as compost.
  • The FDA can cheerfully tell the American people, “Don’t worry, there’s nothing to see here”  with regard to the ever-rising radiation levels in milk but they want to raid the dairies of an Amish man who sells milk right from the cow, as it has been consumed for centuries.
  • The FDA wholeheartedly supports genetic modification of our crops and livestock.  The FDA endorses additives and preservatives.  The FDA promotes chemical pharmaceuticals over gentle natural remedies.

MSM’s Constant Endorsement

And finally, when the media pushes it, I automatically decline.  Seriously – anytime there is a big hype or something is made to be mandatory, my gut tells me “This isn’t good.”  Look at all of the commercials for anti-depressants.  Look at all the soothing newscasters telling us how “we don’t have to suffer.”  Look at how GMOs are being promoted as the answer to world hunger.  Real journalism is all but dead and can only be found in alternative media sources.  The mainstream media is Public Enemy #1, a group of corporate whores who put on make-up and a pretty outfit in order to seduce the public into believing what the puppet masters want them to believe.  The media is owned by the same tie-wearing serial killers who own Big Pharma, government agencies and the financial industry.

It may sound illogical but I firmly believe the MSM is complicit in the overthrow of personal sovereignty.  Therefore, if something is heartily endorsed by them I am immediately suspicious. I refuse to be submissively led along by the folks on the tube.  When they repeat something over and over, at the very least it requires close and careful investigation, if not all-out rejection of what they are saying. There is nearly ALWAYS an agenda and that agenda is nearly always one that crushes liberty or health in the name of power or money.

Any mainstream article on the flu that you read states some form of the following:  “The best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu shot.” It is a not-so-subtle brainwashing. It hearkens back to the theories of Nazi Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels.

  • “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”
  • “Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
  • “The most brilliant propagandist technique will yield no success unless one fundamental principle is borne in mind constantly – it must confine itself to a few points and repeat them over and over.”

This programming has allowed many organizations to make the flu shot a term of participation, with little outcry from the public. Workplaces, schools and other activities across the US and Canada have instituted policies that force all participants to receive a flu shot. Longterm hospital employees have been fired for refusing to have the toxin injected into themselves.  Children have been banned from pre-schools and daycares in 6 states.  In brighter news, widespread refusal of healthcare workers in British Columbia has resulted in the province dropping the policy for the remainder of the year.

I don’t believe that all health care professionals and flu-shot advocates have ill-intent.  I think that many of them have just sipped the mainstream media Kool-aid – the tale-spinners of Big Pharma have slipped in just enough truth to make their theories believable.  Many people are deep-down decent and have difficulty believing that such a perverse money/power agenda could exist.

Mandatory policies of this nature always trigger a suspicious response from me. They whisper the ominous words “soft-kill eugenics” to me.  No, I don’t have proof of this, but I’d rather err on the side of longevity. I’ll take the risk of illness that my healthy immune system can fight off over the risk of being forcibly inoculated with whatever toxins the creators of these vaccines choose to include.  I’ll use my little arsenal of home remedies and come through it without the risk of long-term side effects that have yet to be discovered (or at least, have yet to be made public).

What do you think about the flu shot?

Did you take the vaccine?  Why or why not?  Please feel free to share links to any interesting sources or studies on this topic.

Great article. People need to know that agencies like the FDA are not out to protect anyone’s interest except for the people paying their salaries.

I DID GET THE FLU SHOT ONLY BECAUSE WHEN I WAS AT TARGET PICKING UP MY ANTIDEPRESSANT I WAS OFFERED THE INJECTION FOR CHEAP AND IMMEDIATE. HAD I READ THIS ARTICLE FIRST I WOULD NEVER HAVE TAKEN IT. I REGRET IT NOW, BUT AT THE TIME I HAD NO REASON TO OBJECT. NOW TO WORK ON GETTING OFF OF THE ANTIDEPRESSANTS. HOW CAN I GET OFF OF THEM WITHOUT FIGHTING SUICIDAL IDEATIONS?

      • Lisa Jackson says:

Victoria-a good herbal remedy for depression St John’s Wort; available at health food stores. You might consult with a naturopathic physician for correct dosage. He/she might also recommend other herb supplements to compliment.

5 HTP is a great resource and can be found easily at health food stores. Also check out GAPS (gut and psychology syndrome) by Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride.

        • Justin says:

Please don’t get Victoria killed by your irresponsible advice. Do you have a medical degree? Do you understand the scientific method? There is actual science involved in effective medicine, and it has consistently shown that “herbal remedys” are almost always superstition. Doing research online is fine, but you need to always, always, ALWAYS back it up by not one, but TWO or THREE professional, trained opinions.

          • James says:

You write as if you know what you’re talking about, yet come up with no proof for your assertions. You speak of scientific method and then state, “Doing research online is fine, but you need to always, always, ALWAYS back it up by not one, but TWO or THREE professional, trained opinions.”
Victoria was advised to see a naturopathic doctor. I guess you missed that point in your “scientific” diatribe. Also, if you’re so scientific, why the ambivalence in stating you need back up of two OR three trained opinions? Is it two or is it three?
Finally, science is pretty black and white most of the time. Taking a poll and going with majority opinion, while used in politics, doesn’t work so well with science. Especially when you have players in the game who have vested money interests in the outcome.

          • Angela says:

Taking antidepressants can get people killed. A friend of mine took his life after being on them for awhile.

          • Richard says:

People are waking up to the fact that professional don’t have all the answers. I will take natural herbs over drugs any day. Many people are taking responsibility for their own health. They know that the body knows how to heal and will tell you what it needs when you learn to listen.

          • Sue says:

Justin St. John Wort is so much better than Stanton Drugs. Most who take Antidepressant for years can’t break away from them. I don’t think all St. John Wort products are as effective as other for one reason or another. I do know Gaia Herbs St. John Wort is the best…My youngest son gets deep depression once in a while and this works wonders.

This country is over drugged. Natural is a better way. Pharmaceutical companies are more interested in money than making people well. Follow the money.

          • Dave says:

Oh boy, “Do you understand the scientific method? Unfortunately most physicians don’t understand the scientific method and more importantly, basic nutrition. You can’t heal someone when you’re ignorant of how the body actually works. Do you realize that the pharmaceuticals that actually work come from nature?

Anti-psychotics don’t cure anything, they mask emotional trauma through sedation. As for experts and professionals, both exist on both sides of the argument.

          • Jim says:

Justin, I’m a big fan of science too. That’s why I get nervous when I read package inserts that explain: “Pharmacodynamics: The neurochemical mechanism of the antidepressant effect of
28 bupropion is not known,” for example.

If doctors were as smart as we’d need them to be, for us to resign ourselves to their exclusive care, they’d most-likely outlive all of us. Since they, as a class, actually die younger than most, I’ll keep to my natural remedies (except for broken bones and the like,) as much as possible.

You, of course, are free to do as you prefer.

          • Marianne says:

Justin, you’re a shill for big pharma. How much do you get paid to skulk around websites bashing things that can impact big pharmas stock prices? What an idiot.

      • Access Bars(tm) is a great non-invasive healing technique that works with your brain and body to clear the programs and memories that can cause you depression. You can find a practitioner in your area at http://www.accessconsciousness.com. Ask them how many times they’ve taken the Bars class, and what other training they have. Some people will mix modalities, which with the Bars is not recommended. Most facilitators will offer a free ‘Bars Taster’ of about 20 minutes. Request this before paying for a session to see if you’re a match- It’s good to find someone that you ‘click’ with and trust.

      • Daisy says:

        Victoria ~

I’m sorry – I missed your comment before, so I hope that you see this and the other excellent suggestions.

First of all, it’s no picnic when you stop taking antidepressants of any sort. The type depends on the withdrawal symptoms. It is important to EXPECT withdrawals symptoms so that you aren’t taken by surprise. Even if you are expecting them, however, they can be very severe.

You should speak with your doctor and ask him or her to give you a schedule for tapering off the meds. Whatever you do, don’t just stop cold turkey. Not only are the withdrawal symptoms far worse, there have been cases where this has been deadly. You are trying to heal yourself, not hurt yourself, so be patient and treat yourself gently and kindly for the duration.

Although many of the supplements recommended are excellent, some of them should not be taken while you are still taking your meds, even if you’re tapering off. They can interact and cause serious health problems. Check with a doctor or pharmacist before adding any supplements while you are still on meds.

Some things you can add with no problem that are said to diminish the symptoms are Niacin, D3 and L-Glutamine. L-Glutamin, in particular, can help with that horrible feeling of “brain zaps” that occurs when you are reducing the amount of meds in your body.

Finally, remember that many of these meds are stored in your fat cells. If you are losing weight, you may notice a resurgence of symptoms as medication is released back into your body.

It takes time to do this safely and healthfully – please don’t try to rush it. Hang in there because eventually, you will feel “normal” again.

        Best of luck

        Daisy

        • Licensed Acupuncturist says:

I have to say that, as a licensed healthcare professional, I find the suggestions that various posters have made to Victoria to be irresponsible. She states that she is afraid she will have suicidal ideation if she comes off her antidepressant medication.

Cheerful suggestions that she should take herbs and supplements and improve her diet while discontinuing her medication are potentially dangerous. I have worked with dozens of patients in situations like these, and when a person has a history of depression severe enough to cause suicidal ideation, any changes to medication and/or addition of herbal medicines and supplements needs to be done with the direct and careful supervision of an expert. This is not something to mess around with.

          • Justin says:

            I strongly second this view.

          • Redneck Girl says:

            I third!

          • James says:

I guess you missed the part where she was advised to see a naturopathic physician.
I guess that would have ruined your rant.

          • Darwyn says:

My god… I feel like I fell into a den of complete Idiots. Licensed Acupuncturist and Immoli, I strongly support your statements. To take or not take a medication is your choice, but don’t do it just because someone who spent a day getting brainwashed on HippyRemedies.com told you so. Talk to your physician, If you don’t want to be on a med any more your doctor will discuss it with you and help you stop it in a safe way. He or She will also give you some other options… ones that are based on actual research and scientific reasoning. Don’t listen to anyone that begins a sentence with “a recent study”. A single study means nothing, no matter who ran it. Real evidence is based on hundreds of studies and tests. And with regard to the Naturopathic Physician… That is an oxymoron. The proper term is Witchdoctor If you would like I would be glad to rub essential oil on your head and give you some squirrel urine to drink, for a substantial fee of course.

          • Fred says:

James, does your ‘naturopathic physician’ have anything for burns? Because Darwyn just burned you hard.

          • Lynn says:

Well said…nobody should just randomly advise to stop taking meds and go herbal. I am all for alternative methods but it must be done under proper medical supervision.

      • Immoli says:

Please continue to take your medicine. If you are suicidal without taking your antidepressents, then continue taking them. Do not end up getting yourself killed because you decided not to. Do not listen to the conspiracy theorists. Keep in mind that medicine is made from nature, some painkiller is made from Willow tree bark. It’s just more effective to extract what makes it get rid of the pain as opposed to having people chew on bark.

If you want to get off them despite that then please listen to Licensed Acupuncturist and don’t just stop or start taking what people in the comments tell you to. Talk to your doctor about it. Tell them you are going to try going without them and try something else. If they don’t want you to do that get a new doctor if you have to, just don’t do it by yourself. And if the new stuff doesn’t work, see my previous paragraph and get back on your regular medicine.

        • Alyssa says:

Keep taking them? Thats the worst advice i’ve ever seen. http://www.helpguide.org/mental/medications_depression.htm
here are some reasons why you should stop: A major 2006 U.S. government study showed that fewer than 50 percent of people become symptom-free on antidepressants, even after trying two different medications. Furthermore, many who do respond to medication soon slip back into depression, despite sticking with drug treatment.

Other studies show that the benefits of depression medication have been exaggerated, with some researchers concluding that—when it comes to mild to moderate depression—antidepressants are only slightly more effective than placebos.

Plus they have many uncomfortable side effects which to me are not worth the slight lessening of depression you might achieve. In fact the FDA requires all depression medications to include a warning label about the increased risk of suicide in children and young adults.

Doctors downplay the side effects of medication because, lets face it, they are just there to sell you something. They spend five minutes diagnosing your symptoms, five minutes explaining your prescription, and then they kick you out the door. Its unfortunate but in this day and age we have to take our health into our own hands.

I cured my depression (mercury caused) by getting that metal out of my mouth, exercise, self-love (writing in a journal, expressing yourself and getting to know and be comfortable and happy with yourself), and a good diet. If you do these things I am certain that in 6 months the cloud will be gone, it took about that long for me but these things dont happen overnight thats why those medications are UNnatural and end up having a backlash on your health and developing a dependance to feel happy with them.

          • Darwyn says:

Please site these studies. Who sponsored them? Are they Meta analyses? No medication is 100% effective, especially for something like depression. This is why there are so many different ones out there. What does not work for one person may work for another, and to varying degrees.

        • Meri says:

“Do not listen to the conspiracy theorists. Keep in mind that medicine is made from nature, some painkiller is made from Willow tree bark. It’s just more effective to extract what makes it get rid of the pain as opposed to having people chew on bark”

Not a good idea to stop medication without supervision by a Trusted Physician be it main stream or a Naturopathic . But.. medicine is not made totally from nature. Antidepressants , antipsychotics.. are chemical substitutes.. there is no patent for something God made , therefore.. it’s totally artificial.
          A copy is not natural.
Keep your therapist advised of your thougths. Reach out to others.
There are many nasty side effects from all medications. Find a Doctor that will listen and try other things while monitoring you.
you intention was probably one of being helpful.

After a while my husband and I realized that the drugs, while making me not unhappy, also made me non-emotional period. I was smart about it and went off both meds very gradually. I would not recommend it thought without talking to a naturalist. They know how to come off those meds and safely. My sister is on meds to help her sleep and to keep her from being “bi-polar” as the professionals call her. She has black outs, rages, and even sleep walks and other various activities. I hope that with the right help you can find a better option than the crap that you are being fed by the pharma-companies. God Bless

My wife died from the flu shot. She worked for the VON and was asked to get the flue shot. Which she did. Within 3 day she started coughing up flem. It got worse daily. Finally after a month is had a biopsy. It came back positive for lung cancer. she died within months at the age of 55. I was told by a disease specialist in Toronto hospital that it was caused by the flu shot. To this day I’ve never had a flu shot nor have my children. We refuse to be guinea pigs..Don’t do it.

          Frank.

All do respect, and I’m sorry for your loss but…

Is it possible. Even remotely. That she had lung cancer before she had the flu shot and just hadn’t shown signs yet?

Was there tests done to prove this? or was this an opinion?

I only ask this because its truly sad how on the internet, someones opinions somehow turn into “internet facts”.

70% of the comments on this site are opinions by non professional people who should not be giving advice ever.

Better still is make your own Kefir milk. The L Caucascus and sacromyces bacterias in Kefir create precursers to endorphins and serotonins. The body will readily then create and store the serotonins for use in the brain. It takes about two weeks of Kefir before there is a build up. If you stop taking Kefir the body ususally takes 2 months before the bacteria dies out in your gut and you have to have some more. Side benefits of Kefir are a healthy gut and it will slowly remove Candidas from the body. Use good whole milk to make it.

A lot of doctors can prescribe that meds without giving you proper support. They are trying to help and probably recommend counseling. It will help. Together, you and your doctors can and will help you.

Odds are the shot will do way more harm then the actual disease.

Yes the big corporations have STRONG ins with governments on all levels especially BIG Vaccine INC,

The bottom line on the “Seasonal Flu” is you do NOT want protection from ONLY the seasonal flu. You want protection from ALL VIRAL infection. There is perhaps protection from four viruses in the “flu shot”. There are hundreds, at least, of viruses which can cause the “Seasonal Flu” like illness (ILI), which is nothing but a viral infection.

Vitamins D and C, in ADEQUATE AMOUNTS will protect you from ALL VIRAL INFECTIONS. NO “flu shot” is needed to completely avoid all serious viral infection. IMO the vitamins D and C may offer you at least some protection from viral pandemic viruses.

It is just this simple and difficult.

Got into it with my mother recently. She gets her flu shot every year (she’s in her 70s). I’ve never had one and never plan to get one. She was appalled. I simply don’t trust the people behind the push and I’m not the sort to pop a pill (or get a shot) for every little ache and pain. I’d rather go overboard away from over-medication than risk becoming a zombie for Big Pharma. The best way to prevent the flu is to eat healthy, wash your hands, try to avoid sick people (as much as possible), etc. But the drug companies don’t make money off common sense and healthy people.

    • The J Man says:

Yes, the best “flu shot” is a diet that is Vegan, 85% raw, with raw vegetable and fruit juice throughout the day…4-6 8oz glasses.

        PS. And NO Junk Food!!!!

      • The J Man too says:

This is about as legit as it gets. Everyone, and I mean everyone should save to get themselves a good blender. If you have trouble eating veggies and all that a blendtech or vitamix can change everything. The micro nutrients provided by fruits and vegetables are the best defense. I am a meat eater, but this is where we need to be at to be physically clear, sane and healthy.

        • Daisy says:

          I love my Vitamix!!!! :)

        • LouDawg says:

ahh I have a juicer, but I definitely want a blender so I can drink the pulp and all. I do agree if one doesn’t like to eat the veggies it’s nice to mix it into a smoothie, but I wonder if there is an added benefit to the chewing… like burning a few extra calories, and even dental benefits in the case of chewing on celery it has a brushing effect similar to gentle tooth brushing. remember folks chewing is good too albeit it is not as convenient or easy to digest

          • hoops says:

Juice is best. The fact that the nutritive-packed mineral water(juice) when drunk is instantly absorbed into the system replenishing your cell needs by providing nutrition better than any suppliments without the effort of digestion. This can’t be done with a blender. A vitamix defeats this premise only providing some celulose breakdown with all digestion still needed. Eat fruit and vegitables as much as you can then suppliment your fiber needs with Ground flax, chia seeds, and other seed meals, especially sprouted seed meals. Flax has a 50/50 ratio of non & soluable fibers, which are perfectly suited fibers for our digestive tract and can be easily taken orally with liquids. Yes, chewing your fiber has the benefit of releasing enzymes to help breakdown the celulose…so eat fruits and vegies, drink your juice, and forget the vitamix.

        • Roger Longo says:

Thank you so much for this article. It states a lot of what I now believe. Back in 2002 I believe, it was all over the news, talking about kids dying from the flu and how you had to get your kids vaccinated. They also claimed that there was a shortage. I rushed out and got my 2 boys their flu shot and each year my youngest was sick. Finally one year I got smart (after about 3 years I think) I decided we were done and he’s been fine. Not sick at all. He was diagnosed with asthma when he was 2 and now, no signs whatsoever! I have done lots of research and even did a paper for one of my classes for school. I am so glad what I have researched and wish I could go back and change things I have done, but I can’t. All I can do is be thankful that my kids don’t have any major conditions from their vaccinations. Thanks to people such as yourself for any and all information like this!

  7. Anonymous says:

The vaccines are designed to make people very decadent and servile. All they do is cause more problems than they solve, you can thank big pharma for using lobbyists to push aggressively for these inoculations which has dumb down younger kids in the name of “public safety” the best remedy to take is the THC that’s natural chemical found in the marijuana, but yet again the Feds (DEA) will NOT legalize it and WILL crack down on legal cannabis dispensaries in order to protect these medical profiteers! Washington and Colorado did the right thing of legalizing it completely, but the DEA will STILL crackdown on those cannabis dealers AND still end up fired if tested positive. I have been smoking that good ‘ole THC and never had any problems, which is WAAAAAY much safer than vaccines and inoculations of any kind. We are Anonymous, we are Legion, we do NOT forgive, we do NOT forget, expect us.

  8. Louis Pasteur says:

Unlike you I have studies Biology at Degree level, I do actually understand the statistic behind drug trials and risk, have had flu vaccines (and virtually every other disease vaccine offered to me) and have not had influenza for over 15 years. I have enjoyed a form of schadenfreude as people who spout this sort of rubbish have been taken ill around me.

The human mind is not programmed to understand risk, statistics and probability. It takes real work and Mathematics not a few badly written emotive internet articles to understand risks and safety information and a good grounding in Biology to know how it works.

My advice – go back to school. Listen to teachers and stop writing stuff like this that will result in more people dying than is necessary.

Of course you won’t believe this. You will believe few articles that agree with you written by equally ignorant nutters in preference to the hundred plus years of well researched science behind vaccination.

        • RandomPerson says:

Are you seriously going on about grammar? That’s not even what the subject is about. And let me get this straight, you think people who don’t want foreign substances artificially inserted into them with the intention of contracting the illness(no matter how mild)deserve to get the flu? Because, all of a sudden, it’s normal to want to be injected with something to make you sick. Okay. Sounds about right (not). It’s understandable why people wouldn’t want to be injected with substances that weaken the immune system in order to build it up. So step back, it may be beneficial but isn’t normal.

I have a degree in medicine and I won´t ever take a flu shot in my life! I do not even remember when was the last time I was sick! If you want to be healthy you should eat healthy! Avoid all processed foods, make your own bread, make your own food from fresh ingredients and try to use organic products whenever possible. Stop eting junk with aspartame or high fructose corn syrup. Make sure you never buy low fat products and eat fruits and vegetables every day! Also if you live in the parts of world where you do not get enough sunshine take D vitamin supplements daily. Avoid all drugs that you possibly can! Also if your tab water contains too much chemicals like fluoride consider buying a water distiller. Thats my recipe for healthy living! (And yes you can drink distilled water safely)

      • Renee says:

Right W S!! Your body can do the job if it’s taken care of properly. Adding raw foods, and fermented foods and excercise, sunshine/ fresh air. Great comment WS

      • Mariel says:

Making vitamin D from sunshine uses up magnesium. Since most people are deficient, lowering the Mg could make one feel worse after increasing sun exposure. Oral Mg is poorly absorbed. Epsom salts baths or footbaths can help right away and magnesium oil[magnesium chloride] rubbed on the skin everyday can improve the D level and do a great many other beneficial things in the body. D and Mg are both immune boosters.

      • Kaye says:

By degree in medicine, do you mean Naturopathy?

        Regardless, someone failed you.

    • Huginn says:

Hey Pasteur, thanks for pasteurisation by the way, that was tops, way to go.

Also, thanks for sticking with the age old “human mind is not meant to know of these things”, please, for the love of humanity, step away from the pulpit.

Yes there is good science behind it, and I will, in future, vaccinate my kids against major illnesses that would threaten my kids’ life. But a lot of these vaccinations are not worth the risk of the problems associated with them.

I was 14 when Gardasil hit Australia and the media hard, and it was hard not to be swept up in it. Thank goodness my mother has raised me as a sceptic and urged me to make up my own mind. So armed with pamphlets and an internet connection, I researched this stuff and decided against getting the vacc. I do not regret this decision, and nor am I likely to in future.

So stay on your high horse, and ride off into your drug-laced, ignorant sunset. It’s people like you who perpetuate the ignorance of the masses, instead of trying to put forward your view and actually make people understand what you’re saying, you proclaim you are a biologist and belch things “you ignorant humans” cannot comprehend.

And, before I go, a word on your assertion that we should all go back to school. School does not teach you to learn, they teach you to sit down, shut up and perpetuate the information that everybody “knows” is true. It’s amazing that anyone comes out of that with an original or creative thought in their head.

How about you start educating yourself in how the world really works.

      • Renee says:

Huginn – great comment, if anyone has ever noticed, most of these viruses and bugs get around because even during this day and age we are not very sanitary! Not to obsession, i mean, hand washing! Not coughing and sneezing outright! Prevention like that can make a big dif!

    • Roger Longo says:

I do not wish to engage in a debate with “Louis Pasteur,” but I would underscore that toxic substances are used on vaccines and can compromise one’s health. I understand that you are an educated individual, but one might point that the prescriptions offered by medical personnel can and do have “side effects” by virtue of the toxic chemicals that are inserted into the product as a means of extending the shelf of the medications. I respect your position, but would underscore that there is no reason to become angry if someone disagrees with you. As near as I can tell those who are on this site are establishing a community with some common concerns. The motivation is to help one another by sharing helpful information. There is no reason to be defensive.

  9. Kyle Rutherford says:

I’m a biologist and much of the information you posted is blatantly wrong. (All of it is, actually) The body creates more formaldehyde than what is in a vaccine and the formaldehyde it does create is then taken apart. The body has a way of dealing with toxic by products.

No. Natural formaldehyde is not any more dangerous than industrial formaldehyde. Both have the same molecular formula.

Autism has never been linked to vaccines (and this is coming from someone who has aspergers which is on the autism spectrum)

Autism probably has more of a link toward technological dependency, actually.

Ethylmercury (thimerosal) is far less dangerous than methylmercury (what is often found in fish)

In fact, not all mercury compounds are dangerous. Just because it has Hg (mercury) in it does not mean that exposure to that compound will kill you.

I dont want to address every issue as I have already put doubt in your understanding of the biological sciences.

Have a good day and PLEASE listen to your doctor and stop exhibiting the dunning-kruger effect. Thanks.

    • Daisy says:

Kyle – You clearly only clicked on the study and not the explanation of the study for those of us without your lofty knowledge.

      http://www.naturalnews.com/033998_influenza_vaccines_effectiveness.html

While I certainly support your right to have the flu shot, I also support my right to do my own research and not fall head first into the Big Pharma/Media party line.

Finally, I prefaced the article with the fact that I am NOT a scientist, nor do I have an advanced degree. I clarified this up front to allow the reader to draw his or her own conclusions from the information I provided, not based on some perspective that I am an expert, and this in and of itself refutes your condescending reference to Dunning-Kruger.

Thank you for your comments, though – we can all learn from hearing both points of view.

      Sincerely,

      Daisy

    • dan says:

The doubt we have is in your understanding of proper research not opinions in search of numbers to support them. ie. “Autism has never been linked to vaccines (and this is coming from someone who has aspergers which is on the autism spectrum)”. True. Not linked, but not debunked either as has been claimed over and over by the vaxers wishing it were actually a scientific conclusion.

We’re all waiting on the dbl blind placebo control long term study comparing vax to unvax. Not 38 vax to the 39th and noting there’s no difference. Well no kidding! That’s all you are hanging your scientific hat on when you say no link has been proven.

Those aren’t being done with the disclaimer that withholding obviously “lifesaving” vaccines in order to do a study is unethical or immoral. I call BS. There’s thousands of Amish who don’t vaccinate and have no moral or ethical compunction about their lack. And, they’re within a couple hundred miles of CDC in Atlanta. That little effort would go a long way to settle the question. But vaxers stand in the way. Some of us believe there’s a little more to it than concern about kids not getting vaccinated being unethical. But, I’ll save that for another day.

Meanwhile, it has been shown a few times over now, that unvaxed are healthier than vaxed, albeit by about the same imperfect method you claim disqualifies autism as a sequlae of vaccination. It’s a piece of info to consider until someone has the guts to actually do a study.

What vaccines accomplish in my opinion of 25 years studying available research is a small but measurable reduction in vaccine preventable diseases. Perhaps some deaths as a result. For that we are trading increased long term disabilities for acknowledged effects like GBS. And countless lesser varieties of long term allergy, asthma, diabetes, autoimmune disorders and neurological disorders. The latter effect when incidence is graphed over time, shows an increase in incidence that parallels the increase in the number of vaccines. Not cause and effect I know. But until the science is actually done. I’m tired of folks with whatever involvement in the biological sciences, from epidemiologists to pediatricians to 20 something chem majors, claiming the moral high ground and everyone else unscientific. It is intellectually dishonest.

    • DrStone says:

A hostile comment with an insult that requires looking up!? Interesting, funny!? Well, I probably wouldn’t have needed to look that “effect” up if I were as obviously intelligent and superior as you are.
Is that a fact, that vaccines have not been linked to autism (or spectrum)? I thought a federal jury ruled against a vaccine company last year (maybe 2 now), determining that a childs autism was caused by vaccination. It was big news.
Honestly, this blog post, even while telling us that it includes her opinion, is far more objective than your “facts.”

What non of us respect is the bullshit “I’m educated, by default everything I say is right and everything you believe comes from ignorance” mindset.

Let’s face it science has been wrong far more then it has been right. We’re still infants, scientifically speaking. And I would urge all of you high and mighty physicians to ask yourself where all the money comes from and how that money affects honest science.

    • pete says:

No thanks, people are better off doing their own research, and firing their doctors!

    • angela says:

Actually, Vaccines HAVE been linked to Autism and the US Gov’t is finally starting to admit it. The Institute of MEDICINE says so!

“As I have long stated, and the Institute of Medicine (IOM) now admits:

“Vaccines are not free from side effects, or “adverse effects””

This admission came after a review of more than 1,000 vaccine studies, which was intended to assess the scientific evidence in the medical literature about specific adverse events associated with eight vaccines for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR); varicella (chickenpox); influenza; hepatitis A; hepatitis B; HPV; diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis (DtaP); and meningococcal. The adverse events selected for IOM review were ones for which people had submitted vaccine injury claims to the federal Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP). A convincing causal relationship was found for 14 adverse events and certain vaccines.”

I cannot thank you enough for this article. Your tireless research and the time to write it, let alone the bravery to challenge the FDA & the MSM is astonishing. I fell for it once. 5 years ago, my Dr. r PA wanted me to get the flu shot because we had a baby in the house. So I conceded against my better wishes. 5 days later, I got the worst case of the flu ever. Went back to the doctor for treatment & explained where I got the flu from. The receptionist is even conditioned to tell me, “its impossible to get the flu from the flu shot”. I asked for the ingredients in the shot they gave me and was denied. Never again. Haven’t had the flu since because I take a teaspoon of natural honey 3 times a week. Great read.

You probably didn’t get the flu from the shot. It is a dead virus. And it is weird that you couldn’t get the ingredients. I keep hearing about people not being able to get the ingredients, but its very public knowledge.

More than anything, both of my children have larger than life personalities and loads of energy. Perhaps because they were not injected with toxins as babies.

Hi , thanks for taking the time to put this piece together. I TOTALLY agree that at this point it’s not about having people take sides as much as it is about alerting people to the ever growing trend of society being spoon fed bullshit policies / agendas.I waver , by nature I like to be a fence sitter but by that I do not mean inactive . I always sit on the side of caution. Even if vaccines were ok , which they are absoloutely not , there are so many contradictions and fabrications. All you need to do is take a second to ask ,why ? Why is all that poision in these vaccines necessary ? Why have I seen so many doctors on t.v deny that these HORRIBLE TRUTHS EXIST and why take mercury out only to call it something else is there was nothing wrong with having mercury in there in the first place. Why all the SNEAKINESS ?? WHAT motivates so many average Joe’s and Jill’s who are willing to kick up a storm, dedicating their time to speaking out and braving the judgemental looks (of disgust from plain ignorants)all just so they can try to break the peoples gaze that’s been caught in the corporate looking glass of deception. Just for a moment, so another can begin to exist again as humans are intended to , which is not as one mass enslaved to gross, reptilian like, heartless greed but with a connection to ourselves and each other through that soft voice of reasoning that you referred to , being truth. We are losing more than our health . We , Man / woman kind are losing our connection to … our kids. That’s the biggest heartbreak of all.Wondering what tomorrows generation will have and what they will be because of “it”. The big guns know “it” , “it” was their intention all along and we’ve very literally “ate into “it”. When you want people to do nothing about something, confuse them (media),overwhelm them (the rat race),next DE-HUMANISE THEM ,poisons in vaccinations add to this but it is also part of the rat race agenda by breaking down family bonds.By making time for family and loved one’s almost impossible, look at all those poor DAYCARE BABIES , whose first real care connection is a bunch of random strangers, no wonder the number of pschycopaths is increasing like it is when we have children growing up with under developed emotions because they didn’t get crucial parenting time from a significant other. Ofcourse something as cold as money is going to make much more sence to them , hence corporate pshycopaths that are so willing to destroy all). Finally , have a cover story for it all, something that appeals to their better natures, something like every families favourite , legal and oh so “TRUSTWORTHY”pharma, aka the shop that sells you heavily taxed legal drugs . This is the perfect recipe to subdue any and all. Here are some of the meanings from google btw that I found to be both extreamly coincidental and disturbingly accurate.1)To conquer, supress, defeat.2)To overcome by persuasion or other mild means.3) Restrain or restrict(gov , regulations and restrictions OR simply law).4)To lead astray ,arrest. To bring under control especially by an exertion of the will. And finally ….To bring (land but Im thinking it’s both people and land)under cultivation. Why is this last one so disturbing ? Well , to cultivate means to harvest so are we being harvested in some way . Are we part of something even nastier ??? If money is all that it’s about why not bomb us all and print a shit load of cash…I’m way off topic but in a rounded kind of way I’m also not . This fence sitter, who truly has not become jaded and does see the best in people, just can’t sit on the fence anymore when clearly at the very least I can say with 100% accuracy that we are being Subdued . We are being poisoned . And we are being lied to…. whether the big guns ment “it” or not!

Great article and more people should understand. I haven’t gotten a flue shot since the military when it was mandatory for me. the last 6 years of getting the shot, I have gotten severely sick. since the late 90s, I stopped an have refused the shot. I still get sick, but will only get very sick once in a while. the flu is getting worse each year around us, so I wash my hand very often and tell people the not breathe towards me. I did speak with a nurse one year that did tell me there are more than 300 strains of flu and they are always mutating. So, when flu season comes around, I will increase my vitamin C and take other natural remedies and if I feel something nasty coming on, I will do the ol’ Alka-Seltzer Plus® and I hear that knocks things right out. If it gets worse, then I will see my doctor.

  14. Alissa says:

I do not get the flu shot as I believe that my body will take care of itself as long as I take care of my body through eating right with as much organic foods as possible and exercise. Perhaps in some cases the flu virus kills but mostly it just knocks you out for a week at most. Lastly I never felt the need to purposefully seek out the dead or dying virus in the off chance I get the flu. I notice with friends who get it that they get those “flu like” symptoms within the next couple of days, while I who chose not am fine. Natural remedies, eating properly, exercise, and getting enough sleep are my natural defenses against most sicknesses.

  16. Kyle Rutherford says:

“While I certainly support your right to have the flu shot, I also support my right to do my own research and not fall head first into the Big Pharma/Media party line.”

But if you do not have the background knowledge necessary to understand how the body works and how the body deals with these chemicals to expel them or take them apart within the body then how can you expect to do your own research? Any research you do will not be valid and will only be validated by your preconceived biases. As in, you’ll have a distrust of big pharma and immediately trust, with ease, people that disagree with big pharma. It’s less about the evidence and is more about fear than anything else. You’ll trust a source that is widely known to not be reputable (natural news) over reputable sources in the scientific community because you don’t know any better. It’s basic psychology.

“Haven’t had the flu since because I take a teaspoon of natural honey 3 times a week.”

Um. This has no effect at all on whether or not you get the flu.

The flu shot also uses a DEAD virus. So it is impossible to actually get the flu from the flu shot. It’s not 100% effective, but if we can build up HERD IMMUNITY then we can make it more effective.

“I fail to see how Autism “probably has more of a link toward technological dependency, actually.” I’d love to have an expansion on this.”

Autism is a social disorder. If a child never learns how to be social… by being fixated on the TV when the child is a toddler, then their brain rewires itself to the situation. If the parent doesn’t spend enough time with the child to help socialize the child, then problems can occur. Watching TV before the age of two has already been shown to cause an increase in ADHD and ADHD seems to be linked with autism.

    • Ann says:

How many 2 or 3 year old children have played video games and have had their brains rewired from watching television thereby becoming socially challenged? I don’t think so. Anyone who has worked with or raised toddlers
knows that they don’t sit and watch TV. They are on the move.
Autism is a neurological disorder which manifests itself partially as a social disorder.

  17. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Why is all that poision in these vaccines necessary ?”

That’s simple. A quick run down. Formaldehyde prevents the virus from replicating. Thymerosal works to preserve the vaccine to mass distribute them to a wide range of people, we also use foreign proteins such as mouse brains to help stimulate antibody levels. Scientists aren’t stupid and they are not out to kill people.

” Why have I seen so many doctors on t.v deny that these HORRIBLE TRUTHS EXIST ”

Like.. Dr. Oz? He’s a quack with a flair for pseudoscience.

” and why take mercury out only to call it something else is there was nothing wrong with having mercury in there in the first place”

Uh. There are many different type of compounds ‘with’ mercury in them We removed thymerosal from most vaccines and continued to see autism diagnoses increase which indicates that thymerosal has nothing to do with autism.

All because people don’t want to vaccine, 13 babies are now dead. This is frightening and you guys are responsible for this.

There is no excuse to not vaccinate. It’s the responsible thing to do.

And no. I am not getting paid by big pharma. I’m a concerned scientifically literate individual who is concerned for human life. I would hate for my niece to succumb to whooping cough (she’s a year old) because of some anti-vaxxer. If I had ‘personal’ motivation, that would be it.

BTW. How can you expect to do research when all you are doing is reading/believing whats on the internet rather than spending 8 hours in a lab? The former is not research. It’s believing whatever is posted on the net. The latter is research. It’s doing experimentation.

    • Daisy says:

If your niece is vaccinated, Kyle, how could she possibly be infected by my unvaccinated child? Obviously you have some doubt as to whether the vaccinations work or not.

As to autism being caused by improper socialization, that is so ignorant and offensive that I won’t even discuss it with you. Many excellent parents have autistic children.

You’re welcome to continue posting here, on the website and server that I maintain. Just a little tip: Insulting the intelligence and diligence of people who disagree with you is certainly no way to win them over to your side.

Kyle, did you read the article you posted, that you used to blame people who do not vaccinate for causing baby deaths? Either you never read it, or your own dunning-kruger effect is showing.

That very article states ” under-vaccination is not the cause of the current outbreaks.””More than 95 percent of U.S. children receive three or more doses of pertussis vaccines, while less than 1 percent are completely unvaccinated. Because of this, we usually find that most pertussis occurs among vaccinated people. This does not mean that the vaccine doesn’t work, it just means that most people are vaccinated but protection wears off.”

This outbreak is NOT because of people not vaccinating, though you want to blame them, it is because of a faulty poorly studied product.

Furthermore, if you want to call the reports from the The Cochrane Collaboration ” internet reports, and not science than I worry about the lab you work for.

A few years back, my employer requested that everyone get a flu shot. They said it wasn’t mandatory, but they would set up the appointment and pay for it, along with paying me while I was away from work. I ended up getting the flu 2 weeks later. The following year, the exact same scenario played out. I haven’t got the flu shot since, and I haven’t gotten the flu since……coincidence?

  20. Kyle Rutherford says:

“If your niece is vaccinated, Kyle, how could she possibly be infected by my unvaccinated child?”

Very good question and one that is filled with a misunderstanding. For one, new borns cant be given the vaccine. They need to be a few months old first to get their first one. Second of all, vaccines do not mean 100% immunity. It increases the chance of immunity, but boosters are often needed. It’s like inflating a balloon for the very first time. Its harder to do. But each time after that, it’s much easier. That’s how vaccines work and how boosters work. In order to get near 100% immunity, people need to increase their resistance which decreases the ability for the virus to spread. If the virus has a harder time spreading from person to person, then this increases the chance that your child ‘won’t’ get it.

It has nothing to do with doubt. It has everything to do with understanding herd immunity. Plus, if you’re around a child who is a month old.. they cant have the vaccine yet and you can give it to them.

“As to autism being caused by improper socialization, that is so ignorant and offensive that I won’t even discuss it with you. Many excellent parents have autistic children.”

Offensive? WTF? I’m autistic! I have aspergers! How is that offensive to post facts? Facts are facts whether or not they hurt your feelings.

    • Daisy says:

It is offensive because it is not a fact; it is a generalization. I absolutely do not believe that every single parent with an autistic child has poorly parented that child. As I’ve stated numerous times, I’m not a scientist. Therefore I cannot provide you with a scientific basis for my opinion on this. I can tell you anecdotally that I personally know several wonderful, dedicated parents that have autistic children. Some of those parents have more than one child, but only one is autistic. I do not know the cause of autism – to my understanding no theory behind it has been proven yet – but I sincerely do not believe that autism is a result of poor parenting.

    • B says:

They actually can and will vaccinate newborns if you let them. “Due to how virulent this year’s strain is, we should really give your daughter the flu shot now,” said my at the time 2 month old daughter’s doctor. They told me that they can vaccinate for everything but whooping cough at birth. The child must be 6 months old to get the whooping cough vaccine and 11 for the HPV vaccine, according to that doctor.

Fun fact: Did you know the government keeps track of whether or not newborns got the Hep vaccine at birth? It is on the birth registration paperwork, which most people never see because they give birth in hospitals who fill out the paperwork for them. Most states also keep on file a DNA sample of you child’s blood. Interesting what they keep track of, isn’t it?

I think that doctors who do not take the steps to help parents who have children who are prone to allergic reactions prevent them have discredited much of the good that vaccines do. By splitting up your vaccinations, so that you never get multiple vaccines in the same shot, you greatly lower the risk of allergic reaction. I had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine as a child, and I have to beg the doctors to get the vaccines that are split up rather than 3, 8, or even 15 vaccines per poke. They try to make excuses, like that it’ll be inconvenient to have to keep coming back, because they don’t want to have to order in the split up vaccinations for my family.

I don’t think anyone should ever be obligated to be vaccinated or to vaccinate their children. I also will never ever disclose which vaccines I have and have not gotten nor which vaccines my child has or hasn’t gotten. It isn’t anyone’s business what we put in our bodies but our own. I will opt out of vaccinations on paper, not because I am necessarily anti-vaccine (vaccines have historically saved many lives), but because I do not believe in disclosing my medical history to anyone but the medical professionals who are treating me.

    • DS says:

Several things about vaccines. . .
You can argue it both ways.
No matter what, there are harmful chemicals in there, even if they are just trace amounts (assumed to be so small as to be ineffective).
The other side is that many who take the shot get the flu anyway. But in the simple, hard truth of the matter, and forget the research for just a minute, just use *your* brain for something besides an ear mount and think about this.
When you go to the doctor, who do you see in there? Generally, you will see people who have a status in society. People with money. Maybe even rich or “well off” people. Those who have the money for access to the doctor (or can afford good health insurance). What do you also notice of these people. Their children have allergies, get every cold that comes along, have various physical disorders, sometimes mental disorders (possibly caused by their medications to treat other ailments) and as a general rule, are in there often.
Now, what do you seldom see in there? (and it really has nothing to do directly with “status”) You don’t see the families with children that sit outside in the mud puddle, playing with the dog, dirty face, no shoes, maybe a diaper that may have been on there too long, you get the idea. . .
The reason you seldom see these families is because their children are exposed to every thing that comes along, and their bodies just deal with it. The flu is nothing more than something else they get exposed to. If left alone, the body will build it’s own immunities to just about anything that comes along.
Taking a flu shot (or just about any other assumed immunity “enhancer”) causes the body to say, “Well that was nothing. . . we didn’t have to worry about that, we won’t build an immunity to that since we will just let that other entity (the vaccine) worry about it next time!” But, what happens is that the immunity doesn’t get built. Also, the body may decide that the other entity *is* the infection, so the next time it will actively try to kill the entity (the vacccine) and while it is actively and aggressively attacking the entity, it is drawing from the other immunities leaving the body vulnerable to other things.
What it all boils down to is this: We in America and other countries are TOO CLEAN! With all the antibacterials and other cleaning and disinfection chemicals we have at our disposal, we are cheating ourselves out of the very immune responses our bodies were built with from creation (or evolution for the other crowd).
When my son was a baby, he went with me EVERYWHERE! I was a single dad and worked out in the community as a service technician and he just went with me since I couldn’t afford a babysitter. He has an absolutely stellar immune system. The whole place can be sick as a dog with flu, colds, sniffles, sneezes, allergies and whatever and he may get a runny nose for a day or two then he is fine. I attribute this 100% to the exposures as a baby and 0% to any vaccines he may have had. Has he ever had the flu? Absolutely not.
Due to a physical birth defect, he has lost both kidneys. One when he was a year and a half old and the other in November of 2011. In the process of getting ready for a transplant, he was required to get a flu shot. He hasn’t got the flu yet, but I don’t expect him to due to the fact that his immunity is so good. I just hope that the shot hasn’t affected his immunity to other things and only time will tell.
But, he has decided that if he ever has to get any vaccine again, there will be a contract drawn up with the entity requiring it that they will be held fully responsible for any ailments that occur as a result of the vaccine. They have the choice of signing the contract, or not giving the vaccine. My guess is that they will not sign it.
I will do the same. The list of ingredients will be on the contract, and the authorizing doctor will be required to sign the contract the he attests that every single ingredient is 100% safe for human consumption, at *any level* and if he is fully confident that it isn’t a problem, he will sign it. My guess is, he won’t.
Argue it both ways, people. Draw your own conclusions. As for me and my house, NO VACCINES!.
      JMHO – YMMV

  21. Kyle Rutherford says:

“It is offensive because it is not a fact; it is a generalization.”

There ‘may’ be a genetic predisposition toward autism as well, Daisy. But it makes sense that a technology dependency such as watching tv / playing video games / computer and not socializing with your peers face to face will cause an inability to socialize with your peers. Socializing is a skill. If you do not practice this skill then you will not have it. Of course, there are varying degrees of autism and the more severe cases can be many factors as well.

    “anecdotally”

Any scientifically literate individual doesnt accept ‘anecdotes’ as evidence for anything. We look at statistical anomalies. For example. In order to see if two things are linked, then it is best to do a chi square test for independence… http://stattrek.com/chi-square-test/independence.aspx There are ALWAYS outliers and biological systems ALWAYS operate differently depending on each individual.

Nothing in science can ever be proven as well, Daisy. Here is something that might interest you..

We operate based on our five senses. How do we know those senses are accurate? We don’t. We work off of them as if they were an axiom to accomplish things. But I can never prove that you even exist.

“Daisy – keep up the great work even though it brings out the idiots around.”

Daisy asked me to not call others names. I expect the same civility from others despite which side of the fence they sit on.

Actually you could be right all I have is 50 years experience x 24 hrs no where near your 8 hrs a day in a lab. REALLY??
Have you lost your mind I don’t need a spreadsheet to tell me if something works or not. I have raised 3 kids to adulthood. They actually started doing better in school and socially when I got away from the technology based crap a 20 year career in the military exposes a person to. REALLY you’re 8 hrs a day in a lab x xyrs somehow equates to 50 yrs x 24 hrs/day? Really? Get a grip. I have lived both sides. I have seen first hand what supposed safe immuninations can do to otherwise healthy individuals. Think of the junk the top idiots in your field said were safe for Desert Storm participants. BS. I saw the effects. BS. It’s people like you who deprived these people of the best years of theirs and their kids the best years of their lives. You have no idea what the consequences are. You would be better off trying to convince a cow to wear a bra than to convince me that that stuff does not harm. BTW the reason people come to sites like this is because we are not in a herd. Remember when when a herd gets a disease the whole herd is slaughtered. Whine if you must but remember I will never forgive the pestulance your ilk have brought on innocent people.

    • Jessica says:

When you say “The reason I have trouble accepting someone elses view has no bearing on being technologically dependent. As a special education teacher who is curently writing my dissertation on communication and socialization I will say that Autism and Aspergers is not because a parent sat there child in front of a tv or computer! To say that parents poorly raised their child and they developed autism is simply wrong!

I will proudly say that my husband, my child and I do not receive flu vaccinations and in addition my child has received very few other vaccinations. It is not the FDA, CDC or governments right to tell me I must inject my own or my childs body with these dangerous chemicals!

Joshua. It’s impossible to get the same strand of the flu that you are vaccinated against. It’s inactivated. It could have been a DIFFERENT strand which your body wasn’t immune to. We use evolutionary theory to try to predict which strain is prevalent, but we can be wrong at times. The flu mutates VERY rapidly as well, which is why we need the flu vaccine every year.

  27. Daisy says:

When I wrote this article, I did not write it as a persuasive piece. I honestly didn’t expect the article to get the attention it has. I wrote it in response to several emails asking me my opinion on the flu shot – would I get it and why or why not.

I was careful to preface the article with the fact that I do NOT have a scientific background. I cited my sources so that people could make their own assessment. Many read the same information and came away with a different interpretation. I hope that the information, whichever way you interpreted it, was of interest and use to you.

Obviously people feel very strongly about this issue. Not only are there a lot of heated comments here, but also many to my inbox. And since we’re talking about our children, it is understandable and okay to get pretty fired up.

Thank you all for your responses and I’m very sorry to anyone here that has been offended or hurt by the contents of the discussion.

  28. ed says:

Daisy, I apologize for becoming so passionate about this topic. I think your original reason for writing this article has been vindicated by those who criticized you. Correct if I’m wrong but your origianal premise was:
The propaganda machine will tell you that the flu shot is “60% effective”, but this is a blatant manipulation of the statistics. This article published last year at Natural News explains how the numbers are “massaged” to present the picture that Big Pharma (who funds the research) wants presented. In actuality, the flu shot prevents the flu in only 1.5 out of 100 adults. You can wade through the abstract at The Lancet here.

1.5%. Let that sink in. That means that you have a 98.5% chance it WON’T work. Why would anyone possibly have something foreign injected into his or her body with those odds?
Now let’s compare that with this comment:

Joshua. It’s impossible to get the same strand of the flu that you are vaccinated against. It’s inactivated. It could have been a DIFFERENT strand which your body wasn’t immune to. Now let’s compare with this
Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults
Tom Jefferson1,*, Carlo Di Pietrantonj2, Alessandro Rivetti2, Ghada A Bawazeer3, Lubna A Al-Ansary4, Eliana Ferroni5 Editorial Group: Cochrane Acute Respiratory Infections Group
      Published Online: 7 JUL 2010
      Assessed as up-to-date: 2 JUN 2010
      DOI: 10.1002/14651858.CD001269.pub4
Copyright © 2010 The Cochrane Collaboration. Published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Authors of this review assessed all trials that compared vaccinated people with unvaccinated people. The combined results of these trials showed that under ideal conditions (vaccine completely matching circulating viral configuration) 33 healthy adults need to be vaccinated to avoid one set of influenza symptoms. In average conditions (partially matching vaccine) 100 people need to be vaccinated to avoid one set of influenza symptoms. Vaccine use did not affect the number of people hospitalised or working days lost but caused one case of Guillian-Barré syndrome (a major neurological condition leading to paralysis) for every one million vaccinations. Fifteen of the 36 trials were funded by vaccine companies and four had no funding declaration. Our results may be an optimistic estimate because company-sponsored influenza vaccines trials tend to produce results favorable to their products and some of the evidence comes from trials carried out in ideal viral circulation and matching conditions and because the harms evidence base is limited.. Vaccination had a modest effect on time off work and had no effect on hospital admissions or complication rates. Inactivated vaccines caused local harms and an estimated 1.6 additional cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome per million vaccinations. The harms evidence base is limited.

      http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD001269.pub4/abstract

Please note the part about needing to vaccinate 100 people to prevent “one set of influenza symptoms” which is not even confirmed influenza.

This is for Kyle. You stated that new born infants don’t get vaccines and as a father of three and just having my third they actually do give infants a vaccine. The first one they are giving them is the hepatitis B vaccine. So I’m guessing you don’t have kids other wise you wouldn’t have posted it.

I’m not agaist vaccines but I am concerned about what is in them especially thirmesol when it’s mercury. And if you ask pediatrician they will tell you that they took it out some years ago for children I’m guessing because it wasn’t great for you.

  32. Matt says:

This is a wonderful article but it forgets the most important reason for not getting a poisonous flu shot. My wife and I have studied this for over 10 years. She’s a nurse and almost a nurse practitioner. I’m the researcher. We discovered long ago what the flu REALLY was and how to keep from ‘catching’ it. What people don’t understand is that getting the flu has nothing whatsoever to do with how adeptly you avoid some bug floating around. The key is your own interior terrain. A strong interior is 100% immune from any and all flu and other viruses. We don’t take ANY pharmaceutical or over the counter medications, for anything! Those are worthless and just essentially copies of natural substances. So we skip the drugs and find the natural substances. We adjusted our diet to avoid gmo’s, we eat almost exclusively organice, we take just a few natural herbs, vitamins and minerals and we maintain our natural ph as best we can. My wife hasn’t taken a sick day from the hospital in 10 years. Our kids don’t get sick anymore. Flu shot? Who needs it when you are immune from flu naturally? THIS is the knowledge that would break the backs of the pharmaceutical corporations: that YOU are the best doctor you need and hospitals are the biggest cause of death in the United States.

    • Matt says:

Additionally, the evidence is clear that getting the flu shot increases your chances of contracting the flu and increases mortality from flu.
Another big piece of the puzzle is the argument that diseases like small pox and polio were erradicated with vaccines. This is a huge lie that has become embedded in the public mind. Do the research and you will see for yourself. There is no such thing as a safe or effective vaccine. But people are fighting for SAFE vaccines (i.e. mercury free, etc) or a smaller vaccine schedule. NO!! Vaccines are bad medicine and wrong medicine. Vaccines have only ever been designed for one purpose and one purpose only: making money. Your health has nothing to do with it.

    • Becky says:

Well said Matt. My thoughts exactly. Flu is more about a lack of Vitamin D3 in the winter months and perhaps some nutritional deficiencies that prevent the immune system from kicking it. I’m not anti vax – I’m just pro health and I don’t believe health comes in the form of a needle!

    • Dave says:

      Hello Matt,

Let me play the Devil’s advocate for a minute (I’m against 99% of vaccinations). What if you get the clap or syphilis? I know of no natural remedy that will knock out those diseases. Some drugs work very well, penicillin and its derivatives save millions of lives every year. Not all drugs are bad by any means, though I am weary of the vast majority of them.

Psychotropics, anything that alters brain chemistry is dangerous, especially since the “professionals” know so very little.

There is no baseline, no scientific test which shows brain chemistry “in balance”, hence there is no scientifically proven, empirical test to show a person’s brain chemistry is out of balance.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Millions of Americans are taking these drugs, all based on a “best guess” from the talking heads. Sure, they’ll tell you about studies, show you graphs, etc. but in reality they don’t know Jack!

  33. George says:

My biggest concern is now that we are going to have full government control over healthcare, they will order it manditory that everyone gets a flu shot or loses benefits. Perhaps they won’t let children into school as they won’t let children into school without the other immunization shots already. Perhaps parents will lose custody of their children for not giving them a flu shot. People wanted the government in charge and so we get tyranny, not freedom.

    • DS says:

Actually, any parent, at any public school, can sign a waiver that their children be allowed to attend school without the vaccines and the school has no choice but to allow them to attend. They are violating their own “laws” if they don’t provide equal education opportunities, even if those opportunities are based on unneeded or unwanted vaccines.

      JMHO – YMMV

  35. Amber says:

Excellent article! I have shared w/my friends on facebook to get your info out there. I agree whole-heartedly with everything you’ve written! Thank you for doing such outstanding and thorough research and thank you for encouraging others (especially moms) to pay attention to their gut feelings. There is a reason we have those feelings–to protect ourselves and our children/loved ones. My husband sent me this article which was published on Lewrockwell.com! Thank you for being strong, smart and caring for others.

  36. Doug says:

I have never gotten a flu shot. I have also never gotten the flu. Perhaps that’s because of my lifestyle, which includes plenty of sunshine, exercise, sleep, and fresh vegetables. It also excludes alcohol, tobacco, soft drinks, and fast food. I can only recall one time in the past 2 decades when I was sick. Self care isn’t rocket science. And it doesn’t come in a pill or a syringe.

  37. MoT says:

If you want to avoid the flu your best bet is to avoid contact with infected people. That simply means keeping to yourself as much as possible. Every time you’re out amongst “the herd” is just one more disease vector. Public schools are nothing more than infectious distribution centers. My kids never got ill while at home but the very week they’re back then what do they bring back with them?! Everything else, bar this one thing, and we’re good to go. It’s the one aspect of our lives I hope to finally cut very soon.

    • Dave says:

Boy is that so true! When I send my youngsters off to the propaganda mill they always come back with a cough or a cold. Never have any problems until they go back to school.

  38. Jo Unner says:

Thank you for this great read. mirrors my experience, thoughts, beliefs which i hold passionately. As a Master Herbalist, i know the efficacy of botanicals for health and healing. in my senior years, it pains me to see so many victimized by a broken health system.
If you trust the FDA, you would do well to go to Youtube and watch- Dr. Burzynski movie full version. It shows how someone who developed a cure for some virulent cancers has been harassed by the FDA. Warning: watching this documentary is very difficult. It shows our government doing harm in a deliberate way. Instead of granting monies to further the research of this effective cancer cure, the FDA spent over $60 million to try to SUBDUE him and steal his patent. If you still believe in anything the FDA promulgates after watching this, you might be brain dead.

  39. Peter Venkman says:

My mother in law got Guillain-Barré Syndrome 2 years ago from a flu shot; nearly killed her…weeks in the hospital and almost 12 months at home with a walker and then cane before she could actually walk on her own again. I wouldn’t get one before this happened but firsthand witness of the ‘rare’ side effects only confirmed my resolve to never get a flu shot.

  40. Kyle Rutherford says:

“This is for Kyle. You stated that new born infants don’t get vaccines and as a father of three and just having my third they actually do give infants a vaccine.”

If you would argue against what I say rather than argue against strawman. That would be great.

This was in reference to the WHOOPING cough vaccine when I said that these infants do not get these vaccines. They have to wait till they are two months old. There is a small time frame where the infant is very vulnerable and if the parents catch whooping cough, they can give it to their child. It’s not very harmful for us, but it can kill an infant.
“especially thirmesol when it’s mercury. ”

ACTUALLY, back here in reality, Thimerosal washes out of your body rather quickly compared to METHYLmercury and when we removed it, we did not see a drop in autism diagnoses. We kept seeing a rise in autism. This indicates that thimerosal had nothing to do with it and the ONLY reason they took it out was due to precaution rather than any scientific justification.

  41. Kyle Rutherford says:

“This is a wonderful article but it forgets the most important reason for not getting a poisonous flu shot”

Flu shots aren’t poisonous. Poison is ingested (swallowed). Venom, however, is penetrated into the skin. So snake venom is not poison. It’s venom.

“The key is your own interior terrain. A strong interior is 100% immune from any and all flu and other viruses.”

Please take a virology and immunology class. Thanks.

“Those are worthless and just essentially copies of natural substances.”

Wow. So wrong. They aren’t copies of natural substances. Some are strengthened 10 fold so that the individual can get the amount they need.

If your wife is a Nurse and she told you to take some homeopathy or naturopathy, she can end up killing patients. This is very frightening.

“We adjusted our diet to avoid gmo’s”

Which is just silly since GMO’s aren’t dangerous just because they are GMO’s.

You dont know what pH actually is, do you? Parts of our body has different pH levels. For example, Our blood has a certain pH that is different from our stomach acid.

    • Daisy says:

Kyle – please stop. We believe in natural health here. We do not consume GMOs. We choose organic.

Stop trying to tear down all the comments. I’ve tried to be open-minded but now, it’s just getting to the point that you’re trolling. You are going through each comment and in your mind disproving them. No more.

If you want to refute people, you need to start your own website.

      Daisy

      • Brandy says:

Daisy, I came to this site thru Facebook. I’ve found his comments quite interesting. Please don’t shut someone down for having responses to comments. And trust me I lean and follow a natural lifestyle, but I’d like to hear a researchers explanations. Thank you for your post. This is healthy and good for your site.

“My mother in law got Guillain-Barré Syndrome 2 years ago from a flu shot; nearly killed her”
    http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/167892.php

This disease was around prior to the flu shot. It’s cause is unknown. Just because one thing occurs after another does NOT mean one thing caused the other.

  43. Bobby says:

The best way to fight against the flu is to eat healthy (Daisy, you know what I mean by “health”) and maintain a regular lifestyle (which most people can do it but choose not to)

  44. Kyle Rutherford says:

” please stop. We believe in natural health here. We do not consume GMOs. We choose organic.”

So you’re ignoring all the scientific papers I am bringing forth? This is simply a naturalistic fallacy. Fun fact. Almonds are poisonous. They contain lethal doses of cyanide. In nature, they can kill you. We have genetically altered almonds to not generate cyanide. Almonds are the result of GMO’s. The “organic” version of almonds are lethal. Just because they are GMO’s does not make them bad.

” it’s just getting to the point that you’re trolling. ”

*sigh* No. Trolling is the INTENTIONAL means to attempt to piss people off. EDUCATING is not the same as trolling. PERSUADING is not the same as trolling. People do not know what the word trolling means. Even my own side claims that creationists and naturopaths are trolling. No. They actually believe their stuff.. meaning it is not trolling.

Trolls dont actually believe what they type and they only want to garner a reaction out of folks. Thus, what I am doing is not trolling.

    • Daisy says:

I appreciate your fervor – I really do. I have the same passion for natural health.

You are on an organic website. If you were only debating one point that would be fine. The article I wrote invited people to share why they would or would not get the flu shot. When they share these reasons it is not open for debate. When you engage every single comment, it becomes argumentative, not educational.

You are not being persuasive – you are being inflammatory. If you want to pick apart my posts, go for it – I have thick skin, clearly. But I will delete any further comments where you attempt to debunk the opinions of the readers.

      Daisy.

    • Dave says:

Why don’t you tell the people there are two types of Almonds, sweet and bitter. It is the latter ones that are poisonous to us. We harvest the edible almonds. We have no need for GMO almonds at all.

  45. Kyle Rutherford says:

Yellow desert bananas, btw, dont occur in nature. They are genetically modified. They are infertile. Still safe to eat.

  46. Kyle Rutherford says:

In Internet slang, a troll (pron.: /ˈtroʊl/, /ˈtrɒl/) is someone who posts inflammatory,[1] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as a forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[2] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[3] The noun troll may also refer to the provocative message itself, as in: “That was an excellent troll you posted.”
While the word troll and its associated verb trolling are associated with Internet discourse, media attention in recent years has made such labels subjective, with trolling describing intentionally provocative actions and harassment outside of an online context. For example, mass media has used troll to describe “a person who defaces Internet tribute sites with the aim of causing grief to families.”[4][5]

  47. Kyle,
Hello there. I don’t dispute what you say, your statements carry an amount of scientific viability. As a lab based scientist I understand how the variability of human nature would not play too big a part in your life. I am not a lab based scientist, I am a medical professional, I have seen the results of some patients NOT having a flu shot. I have also seen the results of complications caused directly by flu shots. People will base their choices as they will Kyle regardless of what science says, and that’s exactly how it should be. I do find it odd that even though the author stated her non-professional position in the first paragraph, that you have taken this stance.

Regarding autism. You are actually totally incorrect. Children can exhibit autistic tendencies if they are unfortunate enough to live in the conditions you describe. Those tendencies will reverse however when the negative conditions are removed, which is NOT the case with clinically diagnosed autism. As someone who says he suffers from autism I would have expected you to know this.

  48. Kyle Rutherford says:

“When you engage every single comment, it becomes argumentative, not educational.”

If comments are saying something blatantly wrong and I address the comment, this is being educational.

It’s not being inflammatory. Nowhere have I called anyone an idiot. Although, I myself have been called an idiot by your readers. This is an inflammatory comment.

I have been civil. It sounds like to me that you aren’t interested in reality and you are only interested in fabrications because they make you “feel” better than actual biological information.

  49. Bill says:

Kyle desperately wants to use his scientism trump card. But I find it mildly amusing that he hasn’t offered us any NEW information. Every single thing he’s said is available at the cost of a few clicks of a mouse, and there’s a lively scientific DEBATE about every one of those things. Perhaps it’s bitterness that his classes were ultimately worthless, because the information is free, and the debate will go on. Good luck with convincing people that we should filter our worldview through your worthless degree Kyle. I’m a programmer btw. We don’t tell people they can’t understand or compile code just because they never took a class. That’s the difference between actually producing something, and pretending to have a monopoly on knowledge.

  50. Kyle Rutherford says:

It was more so a hypothesis I formulated which makes some scientific sense. I did say that there could be more of an indication due to technological dependency rather than the MMR vaccine. A vaccine causing autism makes no sense since when we removed one of the agents thought to cause autism by some people, autism still rose.

“I do find it odd that even though the author stated her non-professional position in the first paragraph, that you have taken this stance.”

I have an addiction to educating others in the biological sciences. Not sure why.. It started with educating on evolutionary biology and then expanded into GMO’s and vaccines etc.

I admit I don’t even take the flu shot.. Which really isn’t the issue I have with this report. My main issue is the fact that they are only telling a half truth on the ingredients and disregarding the fact that the amount of the elements prescribed depends a lot on the danger.

For example… Swallowing five gallons of water in an hour can kill you. However, some water every now and then is needed.

Likewise, injecting a gallon of formaldehyde into your system can kill you.. but putting .1 mL wont. It wont harm you and the body will break it down.

  51. Kyle Rutherford says:

    I meant compounds* Not elements*

  52. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Good luck with convincing people that we should filter our worldview through your worthless degree Kyle. I’m a programmer btw. We don’t tell people they can’t understand or compile code just because they never took a class.”

This is a good example of an inflammatory post, Daisy. It looks like your side is the side putting forth inflammatory information and ‘trolling.’

  53. Kyle
Are you related to Earnest Rutherford? That would be ironic, what was it his Dictum said? Something about all science except physics is stamp collecting. The debate papers ‘What the Rutherford Dictum means for Biology ‘ was very interesting.

You can shout out facts all you like but the fact of the matter is that falsifiability criterion has NOT been met on all vaccine studies and therefore you not state your position is the correct one. Science itself states this is the case.

    Regards
    Lizzie

  54. Kyle,
You never represented it as an hypothesis though, you stated it as ifit were fact

  55. I can give hypotheses on lots of things that make scientific sense but it does not mean they are scientifically correct does it?

You know as well as I do science does not work that way. Yes an hypothesis is often the start of new fields of study but I have not heard of reversible autism being studied at this point

  56. Daisy says:

Please refrain from personal attacks, folks – I know this is a very heated topic and it’s difficult no matter which side you are on, when you staunchly believe something is a life-and-death matter.

Thanks for keeping things civil. :)

    Daisy

  57. Dave P. says:

Kudos in writing this article. I’ve been taking 10,000 IUs of Vitamin D for about two years now and, even though I did catch the current flu, it was nothing more than a minor annoyance and I didn’t have to miss a single day of work.

  58. Dave,
Just be a little careful in the long term with that. Vit D bind calcium into bones and can lead to a little too much in the bones and too little elsewhere over prolonged periods of time. I really don’t know how long but it might be wise to check.

“Are you related to Earnest Rutherford? That would be ironic, what was it his Dictum said? Something about all science except physics is stamp collecting. The debate papers ‘What the Rutherford Dictum means for Biology ‘ was very interesting.”

I don’t know my fathers family history very well. So it is possible.

And technically, he is correct. Chemistry is applied physics and biology is applied chemistry which means that biology is applied physics.

  60. Kyle
If it were only that simple. Nice try.

Well it’s bedtime here in the UK so goodnight to you.

  61. Kyle Rutherford says:

“You can shout out facts all you like but the fact of the matter is that falsifiability criterion has NOT been met on all vaccine studies and therefore you not state your position is the correct one. Science itself states this is the case.”

Technically nothing can be proven in the sciences, merely suggested or indicated by the evidence. There is no real causal link between vaccines and autism.

    http://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/searching-for-answers/vaccines-autism

  62. I never said there was Kyle. I worked through the Wakefield issues regarding MMR. I am aware of the vaccine autism argument, and the results of the extensive enquiry.

    It really is my bedtime.

    Goodnight

  63. Kyle,

Something just occurred to me. If nothing in the sciences can be proven conclusively, which I actually disagree with, how are you certain natural methods are no good and vaccines are?

This is a prepper site, if you really are obsessed with advancing biology why not explain how tea bags can stem minor blood loss in an emergency, or its anti-inflammatory properties ?

There are many things us science minded types have to offer and not all of it comes from higher education text books.

  64. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Something just occurred to me. If nothing in the sciences can be proven conclusively, which I actually disagree with, how are you certain natural methods are no good and vaccines are?”

In order to prove something scientifically, you need to, for one, prove that your senses are accurate… as in, you can’t be working off of axiomatic concepts such as relying on your sensory system. You must also KNOW for a FACT that you have all the available evidence ever to exist and no further evidence can ever disprove or falsify something which is impossible to obtain. A state of omniscience is impossible.

We CAN, however, disprove concepts or have evidence that indicates a certain truth value. For example, for the time, Newtons laws seemed to indicate reality. However, we discovered that very small or very large objects defy newtons laws. We must look toward relativity to help us with this.

We then recently discovered a quasar which is the biggest object in the universe which defies our current understanding of physics.

So unless we have all the evidence and know that we have all the evidence, we can never prove anything. That’s why it’s called ‘practicing’ medicine. We can never KNOW the actual effects of the drugs since each individual has an entirely different biochemical make up.

    • Notta Shill says:

Clearly Kyle has nothing better to do with his time, or he’s being paid to be here http://consciouslifenews.com/paid-internet-shill-shadowy-groups-manipulate-internet-opinion-debate/1147073/

I agree that, even with *all the evidence*, it’s true we can never know the actual effects of the drugs. So why risk it when the researched efficacy rates are so low and risks, however minimized in your own head, are present (or so the drug label tells us). IMO, it’s all the more reason not to blindly trust Big Pharma and the FDA and drink the steaming purple Koolaid. It’s actually rather funny – they recommend this vaccine for people who are at risk of complications from the flu due to poor physical condition, age or with weakened immune systems – it seems that these same people would be at higher risk to experience an adverse reaction to same. Similarly, people with stronger immune systems can probably take the vaccine without SAEs but at the same time didn’t need it in the first place as their natural immunity would most likely have kicked in and done its job.

Quantum theory aside, it seems that anyone who gets this worked up about other people NOT wanting a flu shot is either operating under an agenda or in need of therapy. Personally, I thought this was a well written piece and I was happy to share it with my social network.

  65. Debra Durrett says:

I personally appreciate this about the flu vacination. I got my first ever flu shot 2yrs. ago recommended by my dr. at the time. I got sick a week later. I want get another one . Like many, my mother got one every year, and she got the flu every yr and pneumonia also that she died from. i wouldn’t advise anyone to get it.

  66. Mark says:

Daisy, I get what you are saying and honestly what you have said gives me pause. That said, I have skipped the flu shot in the past due to some of the misgivings you have raised and, as a result, have come down with horrible cases of the flu. On the other hand, there are years, such as this year, when I did get the shot and in a couple of instances got the flu but as a much more mild case. In my mind it is worth the risk.

  67. Kyle Rutherford says:

Mark is entirely correct. The flu vaccine can lower the effect the flu has on you, as well by building up your immune system before hand. Getting the flu vaccine is like arming a military. If you’re going to war, it’s best to not fight rifles with knives.

    • Mike says:

Although i can see that you’ve put a lot of hard work in to this Daisy, i’m inclined to agree with Kyle and MArk on this.

Hearsay and reading what you want to hear is never going to stand up to scientific fact.

    • Amber2 says:

I am on immune supressant drugs for a medical condition and have been advised by specialist that I should get the flu shot but that I will also get very sick for at least a week because of being on immune supressants. Not worth the risk, it will rasie my chance of getting very ill.

      • Molly Sing says:

Exposure to inactivated, cutlivated low dose virus pathogens are a safer way to build your antibody resistance than a non-controlled live active virus. However Its your decision, and I hope your practitioner respects that.

  68. Darlena Adams says:

I believe this and do not get the flu shot. I got it once and became much sicker than if I actually had the flu. I was very sick for two weeks and said I would rather have the flu than ever do this again. My doctor and everyone kept telling me that you cannot get sick from the flu vaccine, but somehow I did get sick. I don’t know what is the passion behind the flu vaccine but it is clearly being pushed much more intensely than any other vaccine, the vaccines which really do work. Get the pneumonia shot, it really works. I did. You cannot die of the flu, it is always the flu plus something, usually pneumonia. I work for two hospitals and they push me very hard to get the vaccine. I also work at home and never go to the hospital or am around any patients at all. I will fight this as long as I can. If they force me to take the vaccine and I get sick I will make sure everyone knows.

  69. Paula says:

I only had the flu once when I was a child. I had the flu shot once, four years ago because my childs dr. reccommended it and made me feel like I was going to get my kid sick if I didn’t get one. I haven’t gotten sick from the flu in 20 years…knock on wood! I just practice good hygene and take care of my body. You have to stay active, eat right, and take a multivitamin with a lot of antioxidants.Don’t take medicine for every little thing. Let your body do what it was made to do and your immune system will be strong enough to fight off illnesses.

  72. Steve says:

I for one think Kyle needs to get a life!

Interesting article… I am not for or against the flu shot. As a child, I had always received the flu shot and still ended up with the flu each year. Since growing up and moving out, I choose not to get the flu shot and ever since, I have not received any flu-like symptoms in years.

Coincidence? Perhaps… But I doubt it.

    P.S. – I majored in Biology.

  73. Dale says:

This just addresses the physical issues of the shot. This does not address the spiritual energetics of the shot. If you haven’t worked with Reiki or Shamanic energy clearing, you may not understand, but I have had to pull energetic junk out of a person that had taken a required flu shot. The energy had concentrated in her neck and jaw and had been bothering her for weeks. It was easy to extract, but she decided never to get a flu shot again.

I suspect that harmful energies are placed in the flu shots. It is probably unintentionally placed in the shots due to the energies of the people manufacturing the vaccine, but it could also be intentionally placed there.

    • Jen says:

Good point Dale. Thank you for posting your comments & experience with this. I hadn’t thought about the energetic aspect. Sometimes I get so distracted by the left brained arguments that I forget about my spiritual connections and my Reiki training, etc. I truly do appreciate the reminder. Time for me to focus elsewhere and quit reading all the comments!

Thank you, Daisy for your excellent article. I’ve shared it with my family.

  74. Warren says:

Wife and I had the Hong Kong flue in 1968. That was bad. VERY sick. We have taken the shot every year since with NO ill effects .Wife has a depressed immune system due to a heart transplant in 1998. Medicine that destoys immune system is required to prevent rejection of new heart. Never had any problem with the flu shots.

  75. Paul says:

I have never had a flu shot……I have not had the flu in well over 25 years. My Children have never had a flu shot and have NEVER had the flu, My son is 24 and my daughter is 22!!!

Let me just say that I have found all of Kyle’s responses to be very interesting. I am happy to see that someone with a different viewpoint is able to express their views on this website. It’s very important to see both sides of an argument. Kyle, you’re a very smart person. I commend you for being able to challenge everyone else’s views on here. Daisy, your article was great and I’m happy to see that you’re willing to let someone such as Kyle share his views on here. So keep up the good work Kyle.

As for my views on this, I try to get the flu shot every year and I’ve never gotten the flu or had any reactions to the shot. There have been a few years where I didn’t get the flu shot and I didn’t get the flu. Perhaps, I have a stronger immunity than most people. Whatever it is, I just do what I can to help prevent myself from getting sick whether it’s washing my hands after using the bathroom, eating right, getting some exercise, or just taking some vitamins. I do like those Airbourne vitamins. Those are very good.

  77. Amanda says:

Reading this was interesting for me as I happen to get the flu shot every year without fail. Not cause they say you’ll never get the flu or cause its good for you. I am an asthmatic. I have been since I was born. I used to get sick every year. Even with taking my medication regularly I would always without fail have to take several trips to the local ER cause my asthma attacks got so bad I couldn’t breath on my own. Not fun being young and having to go once or twice a month to get shots of ventaline and hold the mask over your face for 6 hours to breath straight oxygen. My doctor recommended the flu shot one year so I got it. That year I didn’t spend any time in the ER. I still got sick of course but they were less sever and I was able to control my asthma with regular use of my inhaler. This year alone I was the only one to get the flu shot (out of myself, my hubby and 2 children) and I am sick the least and when I do get sick I am usually over it the fastest. Now it can’t be because I am healthier (cause I am not) or cause I eat better than anyone else. (I don’t. In fact I eat the worst out of our little family) and there is nothing else valid to explain why I get better faster. Nothing except I get the flu shot every year and no one else does. In fact I was talking to my doctor about this and given my particular health problems (which I am not going to list) I shouldn’t be able to get better faster considering how my husband and children are much healthier than me. Even she couldn’t figure out anything other than it being the flu shot.

Now I do have one recommendation for people who want to prevent colds and such. Oil of Oregano. This stuff is magic. It tastes god awful but its natural. When you start feeling the familiar beginnings of a cold (Tickle in the throat or mild soreness, stuffy nose, etc) take a 4 drops several times a day to the back of the throat. I’ve been doing this since September (my son just started school and he brings home every little bug) and I have prevented so many colds this way. I find it doesn’t do much once your actually sick but most times if you start taking it in the beginning the sickness goes away.

Now I don’t have a problem with the normal standard flu shot but I DO have a problem with the H1N1 flu shot. My husband has a first cousin and his wife decided she wanted their daughter to get the shot. The next day she began to have serious seizures. This poor little girl is so choked up on anti-seizure medication its sickening. She’s seen all kinds of specialists across Ontario and they all agree on one thing. It was the H1N1 shot that caused it. I had been debating about taking my son to get it since he was of age but after hearing what had happened I decided against it. Its been a few years since the big H1N1 scare and only now are her seizures starting to settle down a bit. Doctors are saying she will probably have seizures to some degree for the rest of her life.

Interestingly enough I remember reading a health magazine in my doctors off at some point (We’ve had a lot of appointments in the last 6 months as my son was just diagnosed with asthma) and it was talking about the mercury in the flu shots. I don’t remember the exact measurements but doctors, dieticians and nutritionist all say that 1 can of tuna a week is okay for you. That can of tuna has more mercury in it than the flu shot. So just in my opinion if you can safety eat a can of tuna a week than the mercury in a once a year needle can’t be so completely terrible.

  78. Tenley says:

I have never and will never take a flu shot. I’ve had the flu once – I’m 51 years old. So, the odds of ME getting the flu is now about 2%, WITHOUT the flu shot. All things being equal, and assuming I got the flu once WITH the flu shot, I’m thinking those are pretty good odds AGAINST getting the shot. And if you would argue I would not have gotten flu if I’d received the shot, my answer would be – given the poison in a flu shot, I’d rather have the flu!

  79. David says:

Health professionals claim the flu shot is safe. We need to remember scientists are not infallible. They not only make mistakes but also purposefully alter results in order to achieve the desired outcome. Not all, I am not making that generalization, but some will and do.

At one time smoking was considered a safe weight loss aid. Cigarettes were given out with rations to soldiers at war. We now know that any benefit gained is dramatically outweighed by the ill effects of smoking.

Lobotomies were considered a cure for homosexuality. People believed it and defended it as adamantly as some here defend the use of the flu shot. We now know this was pseudoscience.

Fen-phen was used as a miracle weight loss drug until it was found to cause cardiac problems as well as pulmonary hypertension. The maker was sued and the plaintiffs won.

SSRIs were once and still are considered by many a cure all for depression/anxiety disorder. They are now known to cause birth defects, weight gain, lethargy, mood swings, night sweats, night terrors and insomnia just to name a few. The long term effects of this class of drugs is beginning to outweigh the benefits for some users.

New risks with use of statins are being found such as they increase the risk of diabetes in users.

It is my body. The ultimate freedom is choosing what to put in it and what not to put in it. If you feel the flu shot is beneficial and you want to take it that is your prerogative. I choose not to take it due to the reasons listed above. There is not enough evidence that it works and the long term effects of people who take it have not been studied. Just from the instances where science has been wrong previously is enough for me to wait this one out.

What makes an ardent defender so sure this shot is not a mistake like the previous examples I have given?

  80. Letrice says:

I have never had a flu shot nor my son. I have known people who swear by them and I know people who have become sick by them before and swear never to get another and while I understand Daisy’s hesitation through her research and although at some points annoyingly understand Kyle’s this is my opinion,

Maybe the people who have gotten sick from getting the flu shot already had weakened immune systems which made them more susceptible to getting sick and maybe just maybe, the flu shot jump started their immune system into attack mode so if they were to get “this year’s deadly strand” it wouldn’t be as bad. Maybe the people who did the flu shot are already very health conscious and have proper working immune systems therefore being able to fight off the live but weakened strand. I find out that things that seem to be such a big issue is only really common sense but since we want to be so deep, our senses are so common.

  81. Hanne says:

Thank you, thank you thank you!

I am 70 have never had a flu shot and have never had the flu. My 2 adult never had a flu shot and also never have had the flu.
I unknowingly had milk-duct cancer many years ago which my immune system must have handled all by itself. I sometimes wonder what my health would be like today had I accepted the cancer drug Taxol when they discovered my “earlier breast cancer.

  82. jack daniels says:

At best the flu-shot is a money spinner for big pharma, at worst a depopulation or dumbdown tool. Either way, I don’t feel like I need it. If it works, the people who have it won’t be passing flu onto me anyway, right?!?

  83. Kyle Rutherford says:

“It is my body. The ultimate freedom is choosing what to put in it and what not to put in it. ”

Except that your decision to not vaccinate could lead others to die from YOUR “choice.”

Your rights end where others rights begin. Why should you have the right to endanger the population?

  84. Molly says:

Kyle, you are clearly intelligent, you KNOW what you’re talking about. You know the science, you have the understanding. All this talk of organic food, if you organic food lovers aren’t growing and cultivating your own “organic food”, you should watch some documentaries on exactly how organic your organic food is. And you’re so worried about the big, evil FDA. There is nothing wrong with getting a flu shot. Or not. It’s certainly your choice, as adults. I’ve never had an adverse reaction to one, but I rarely get one, I rarely, if ever, get sick, much less the flu. I’m a regular hand washer. I also smoke, which is a terrible, dirty habit, I drink alcohol occasionally, I eat meat, drink whole milk, eat fruits and veggies that aren’t organic! My point is, I am rarely sick – I was vaccinated as a child, I sometimes get a flu shot, sometimes I don’t. And I think Kyle sounds like one of the few sane ones here.

  85. I currently have the flu. I have had it for three days now. I by no means lead a healthy life, i sleep little, I drink, I smoke, both tobbaco and pot. I eat crap, mostly mcdonalds, and i truly suffer for it. I get sick. I weaken my immune system with my lifestyle. And yet, i still won’t get a flu shot. It doesn’t make sense to kill something with dead stuff and chemicals.don’t these people know that those chems make you sicker than the flu? So i will have the flu.like i did last year and the year before.i am a man i can suck it up.because getting a flu once a yearis still better than paying to have some Asshole who is more than likly only getting paid minimum wage to stick me with a needle full of poison…

  86. Kyle Rutherford says:

“at worst a depopulation or dumbdown tool”

Yeah. It is a depopulation tool. All vaccines are, but not for the reasons you seem to think.

People in 3rd world countries have MANY children in hopes that at least one becomes an adult. With the absolute destruction of these viral particles, we can help get rid of disease which means these families wont feel the need to have 10+ children. So it will lower the population since people wont NEED to have many, many children.

“Either way, I don’t feel like I need it. If it works, the people who have it won’t be passing flu onto me anyway, right?!?”

Provided that they aren’t carriers, get a different strain or so on and so forth. Your state of mind hurts herd immunity which can damage the population.

  87. Nurse says:

I have received the flu vaccination twice in my life. Each time I became severely ill. When I called the doctor to let him know, I was told it was just side effects of the vaccine. Bullcrap!! It gave me the dang flu! Lesson learned! I no longer get the flu vaccine. They can keep their side effects! And wouldn’t ya know, I barely get a cold now. I also refuse to let my children get the vaccine. No way am I letting anyone put that crap in my babies. I’ve been a nurse for several years, and I also give my opinion to my patients. Ultimately it’s their choice. If they don’t want it, I won’t give it! Never do I pressure them into taking it. It’s their choice. Not mine.

    • Jeff Walters says:

Same thing happened to me the only time I got a flu shot. My Doctor insisted that it was a coincidence and totally impossible for the vaccine to give you the flu. I won’t get it again. Haven’t had the flu in 19 years, so I think I’m immune to most strains anyway.

  88. Lisa says:

Thank you for all this info of which I was aware of most. Here is another reason: cancer virus in the vaccines!

  89. Rhonda says:

This is so full of crap. Do these same people think the eradicating polio was a bad idea? The flu is a very serious illness and can have serious complications especially for the young and elderly. Getting the flu shot along with good hand washing and good sneeze/ cough etiquette are ways that responsible adults protect themselves as well as their loved ones. Doing less is downright irresponsible.

  90. shadowkate says:

I got the flu shot because I had no choice in the matter. I am in school for a health care profession and was told that if we did not get the flu shot, we would not be allowed to go to clinical this year and that our clinical sites would not allow us there with out it.

My son got the flu shot for a different reason. While I’m far from sold on the effectiveness or greatness of the flu shot, for me it is a matter of odds. My son is 4. When he six months, just under a year and just about a year and a half, he came down with the flu which then proceeded to pneumonia. He got the first flu shot at 18 months (after recovering) and has not come down with pneumonia since (though eh has had the flu).

Therefore, while I can’t prove that the flu shot has prevented the pneumonia, in this case I feel better giving it to him then not.

  91. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Thank you for all this info of which I was aware of most. Here is another reason: cancer virus in the vaccines!”

Um. Of course viruses are in vaccines. How do you expect them to work? By magic? Viruses can cause cancer. Almost all viruses can because viruses can cause mutational changes to occur. This is unavoidable and merely shows your ignorance.

  92. Jane says:

I am 74 years old and I have had a flu shot every year for as long as I can remember and I have not had the flu. So what if I have had a stroke, and kidney stone that could not pass and had to have surgery in 2011 and last year was told I have cancer. I usually have my shot in early October and I do not believe the flu shot had anything to do with these things, if you ever have the flu like I had the flu in 1962 you will do anything to prevent the flu.

  93. Valerie says:

No flu shots for my family!!! Simply don’t trust the government!

  94. Rx Student says:

Daisy, I have one major problem with this post. I do agree with you that it is ultimately your right wether or not to vaccinate. The problem I have is where you put your faith. While you say you do not trust the FDA and that their approval means the company looking for approval just has enough money to pay for it. This is a fallacy spurned by ignorance. The FDA approval process is exremely extensive and takes an exhaustive time to complete. The approval is backed up by numerous studies and data. (Yes, I understand that data can be fabricated but I have yet to be shown refutable data that can contradict use of the vaccine). I agree too, that many of the studies out there have a bias towards one side. This is why it’s so important to know who is conducting the study. A “double blind” study is the best at getting around the bias. As to the FDA “overlooking” an e coli outbreak at factory farms. Your issue is with the USDA, not the FDA. They have no jurisdiction there. The biggest issue I have though is one of your early comments that you are a “mom with an internet connection”. The internet may just be one of the most dangerous sources around. It allows anyone to post anything with out consequence. You make many claims that you have researched the internet and made many claims about dangerouse materials. You make no citation as to where you get this information. It does not take a medical professional to cite your sources. The only source you mention is “The Lancet”, which I agree is a good source, but you fail to mention what information you obtained from it. You have a blog, which it seems that you have many followers. It is your duty to provide them with as much fact as you can. This can only be done if you cite where your information is coming from. Otherwise, how can we know if what you say is true? You have no credibility. This is a very serious and controversial subject. The only way to make a decision is to be informed by trusted sources. I agree, nobody should just take what their doctor or the television says as law. Do the homework yourself. The New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, PubMed. These are only a few of the respected and irrefutable sources out there. And don’t make claims just to prove your own cause. If you say that these companies are financially in bed with one another, back it up with facts.
I, for one, am a staunch advocate of vaccination. I understand there are risks, as there are with using a cell phone, or driving a car. The benefits, in my opinion, outweigh the risks. I know there are excipients in the vaccine that, in their own right, can be dangerous to humans. I know that my body has means to dispose of a small amount of these excipients without detriment to my health.
All I ask of you Daisy is to cite where your facts are coming from. Your followers will take your word as fact and will not be properly educated. What you are doing trying to convince people to take a point of view and you don’t have any accountability. This is dangerous and irresponisible.

  95. Rx Student says:

I do see that you have sourced some of your work. First, you cannot first attack the CDC’s credibility and then use them as a source. That’s just stupid. Second, your own blog is not an irrefutable source. Nor are newspaper articles or wikipedia. You need sources from professionals. Again, the only one you mention is The Lancet. And you don’t source from it, you tell your readers to “wade through the absract”. I can tell you that most people do not know how to understand or read an abstract. If you aren’t going to pull direct quotes from it, don’t source it.

    • Daisy says:

This piece was not written as a scholarly treatise, which I’d assume by your username, is what you’re accustomed to. That being said, I thank you very much for your input. You’ve given some very constructive suggestions, some of which I will definitely include in the future.

      Sincerely,
      Daisy

      • Rx Student says:

I understand that this was not your intention. However, this is not a simple subject over which brand of cooking pan you like to use. This is a very seriouls subject with serious consequences. You make many claims that are detrimental to the FDA and other government associations and which can be very influential to people who don’t want to do the work you did. I know this is your blog with your rules, but in a case like this, the only answer is factual sources. If you can’t find them, you can’t write this.

        • Nick says:

I totally agree. I really hate it when people try to present “hunch science” as scientifically factual or close to factual.

        • Molly Sing says:

A well written response. I agree. We must take responsibility and accountability for our information provision. Be aware of the potential impression it may leave on viewers understanding. Any source of information that does not adequately reflect this is deemed irresponsible, ignorant and may be dangerous.

        • Michelle says:

AGREED! This sort of writing is NOT helpful to society as a whole. It just perpetuates a flawed hysteria. Read the comments; people are reacting like you’re an EXPERT on the subject and using your opinion as a basis for a critical life decision. You could be directly responsible for MANY deaths this flu season.

  96. Nick says:

This article is b*llshit. I took the flu shot, have been around people with the flu, and haven’t gotten sick.

    • Michelle says:

OK, so far you’re the THIRD lucky person to comment. Seems like some creatively invented numbers were used to perpetrate this lie about flu shot ineffectiveness.

  97. Susan says:

I live in British Columbia and am a health care worker, I am not allowed to work during a flu outbreak because I publicly refuse the shot. They also offered that I take the Tamiflu pill. Have you researched that one, its another loaded gun. Titanium and the drug company refuses to publish 60% of their test findings. Thats just for starters.

Ty for the information I will be passing it on.

    • Michelle says:

Why the hell would you rely on someone who listens to hearsay, believes fairytales, and makes up their own data to further their own personal opinion?

  98. Lisa s says:

Don’t get the flu shot, get it? Live right, create your own immunity, never trust the Big Pharma, and……chill the fuck out. Why are people, yes scientists so threatened by OUR resistance? I say fight the good fight naturally, and have the big Pharma stop (make it illegal) funding research.

    • Michelle says:

I am DEFINITELY not “Big Pharma”. As a teacher, who was born a type 1 diabetic, with an asthmatic son, I get REALLY annoyed by the ‘live healthy’ don’t get vaccinated movement. Growing up, MOST of our food was home grown or locally raised. My parents didn’t do the TV dinner, tupperware, twinkie bs of the 60s & 70s. Bout as ‘natural’ as you can get. Still, I BARELY survived chicken pox, literally it was just a matter of hours. So, just as my mom (who lost 3 cousins to whooping cough) got me vaccinated for that, I got my son vaccinated for chicken pox as soon as that came out.
And oh, hell YES, the annual flu shot is in order.
What many don’t realize, is that for those who have weakened immune systems, a vaccine is only effective if the future exposure is minimal. So, to all those out there that DON’T vaccinate, you are potential MURDERS, intentionally exposing everyone else to something that can kill them.

  99. Virginia Lilie says:

Took flu shot in late ’50′s because Army required it,husband & I got deathly ill with the flu. Swore we’d never take the shot again! I didn’t notice anywhere in the article that people allergic to eggs are not to take the shot. I tested allergic to eggs about 20 yrs after the shot so I definitely will not take shot!

  100. From a Third World Country... says:

Living outside of the US in a third world country I have seen a lot of the diseases the US government suggests we get immunized from. I have seen my students get mumps and measles and typhoid and malaria and more diseases that I knew existed. Immunizations are a good thing as I have seen these diseases up close and personal. I respect everyone’s right to choose. Do what you need, but those who believe that they can fight all these diseases (like the flue) with just healthy living (which certainly is really important and helpful) are benefiting from the fact that most people around them are immunized and not sick. If you really think your healthy habits will save you I challenge you to come live in a village where 90% of the inhabitants have malaria and various other diseases and see if that is enough. I promise you’ll have all the organic food you want. You are lucky you live where you live and have the choice to do as you please. Your choice is balanced on the shoulders of the people around you.

  101. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Why are people, yes scientists so threatened by OUR resistance?”

Oh. I don’t know. Maybe because it’s getting people killed? That might be it.

  102. Jen Drabik says:

Please continue to spread awareness about the dangers and inefficacy of the flu shot…by 2020 it’s likely that the government will mandate this vaccine for ALL americans. Even if you are pro-flu shot…don’t you prefer to have the CHOICE to take it??

  104. Kyle Rutherford says:

    “NOTHING in U.S. newspapers.
Howver, as the Daily Mail,is a tabloid, I also looked it up:”

Correlation doesn’t equate to causation. If it rained, then I get diagnosed with cancer. That doesn’t mean the rain CAUSED the cancer. Likewise, if I get an MMR vaccine and then get diagnosed with autism that does not mean that the MMR caused the autism. There needs to be a double blind study. In fact, most medical personal scoff at the idea that MMR causes autism. Wakefield got his medical license stripped and can no longer practice medicine in the UK because of his immorality about getting paid to fudge results.

  105. Kyle Rutherford says:

“Even if you are pro-flu shot…don’t you prefer to have the CHOICE to take it??”

The flu is contagious. Having the choice to take it may end up killing someone else. Whose life takes precedence?

  106. KristenV says:

Victoria, my sis in law deals with the same depression issues, she takes 5HTP and hasn’t had to take an antidepressant since. Check it out.

  107. Jean Lesica says:

Lots of interesting discussion, some more thoughtful than others. (Really, guys, need we call each other names or swear? It really detracts from the force of your arguments.)

I am a physician, and I carefully read the linked articles. The Lancet article is quite clear, supporting a 69% average protection from influenza A with the flu shot. The articles from Natural News are disingenuous, and it is here that the numbers are massaged to support a pre-existing viewpoint.

“From a Third World Country” makes some excellent points. We are so blessed to be in a country with such a low rate of life-threatening/life-compromising infectious disease, and much of that is from vaccination of the majority of the population over past decades. We don’t see lots of kids crippled by polio, sterilized by mumps, ill for weeks or dying from measles or smallpox, and on and on. Many would gain a different perspective from living in developing countries, or if they could take a quick trip back a century or so. Healthy diet and exercise are critical, but medical science really does have some additional health benefits to offer. (And really, most doctors do want to help people live better and healthier lives!)

That said, I do feel that adults should still be able to choose whether or not to take advantage of vaccinations. I know that refusal to accept vaccination may end up hurting others besides the refuser, but that is true of many of our actions. I think that education and positive peer pressure, especially in the healthcare industry, will eventually win out on this issue.

I noticed that there was some talk on anti-depressants. I’ve dropped my dosage on my anti’s and I’m dizzy, nauseous and feel like I can pass-out at any moment. Do I resume my regular dosage or stick with it and deal with the dizziness, etc.

    • Daisy says:

Lani – something you can add to your diet is an L-glutamine supplement. You can take it 3-4 times per day for a few weeks while you are tapering off. It helps with some of the unpleasantness.

Hang in there – it does get better!

      • Lani says:

        Thank you,

I sent a message to my doctor and she told me to go back on my meds. But I’m wanting to take control of my body again and decrease the meds I’m on. Am I doing the right thing?

  109. Kyle Rutherford says:

“I noticed that there was some talk on anti-depressants. I’ve dropped my dosage on my anti’s and I’m dizzy, nauseous and feel like I can pass-out at any moment. Do I resume my regular dosage or stick with it and deal with the dizziness, etc.”

Your body is forming a dependency on the chemicals and due to the relative nature, your body isn’t use to you being off of them. I would continue the use of antidepressents since all they do is help regulate what your body SHOULD be regulating in the first place. It helps balance the chemicals.

Nothing bad about antidepressents people. LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR!

Also, Lani. I use to suffer from depression. I managed to change my state of mind. I come across as kind of an insensitive jerk sometimes.. and arrogant. But I am happy. Happier than I use to be. I didn’t need to take antidepressents due to changing my state of mind. Mind over matter and all.

MOST people can’t do that though. I would listen to your doctor. They have the medical knowhow that Daisy is lacking. (No offense Daisy.. but unless you can provide a medical degree, why is your opinion more valuable than those who do?)

  110. Lucinda Ouart says:

I got the flu shot once around 1995. I sufferred great fatigue and couldn’t get out of bed for a month and felt worse than if I’d gotten the flu. I haven’t ever gotten one since as I don’t ever want to feel that bad again. I haven’t gotten the flu since then.

  116. David says:

Kyle has dodged my question. What makes everyone so sure the flu shot is safe? I listed many drugs/therapies that were one time considered safe and recommended by the medical community (some for decades) but we know now they are not safe.

Here is an article from CNN that was posted today, that outside of the U.S. and Canada, no other country recommends blanket vaccinations.

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/17/health/flu-vaccine-policy/?hpt=he_c1

World health officials say there is not sufficient data to support what is recommended here and this policy may even hinder the production of a better vaccine.

Drugs are released to the public before the long term effects are studied.

If you want to take a drug with or without knowing the long term effects that is fine but I choose not to.

  117. B Jeanne Hansen says:

Articles like these are misleading and dangerous. Flu shots save lives. Statistics are wrong. conclusions are wrong. Only thing I can agree with is there is a potential danger in everything we take medically. i.e. allergic reactions, etc. If no one took the injections we would have a worldwide pandemic that in a year like this one could kill millions. Children and the elderly are most vulnerable in most years, but many children and young parents died during the pandemic of 1918. The internet is a difficult place to get information, because finding reputable sites is hard to judge. Just don’t believe everything you read and look for people writing something on their own agenda. Talk to your doctor about your fears and concerns and get your flu shot.

There were scientific experts at one time who drew maps and described a universe that revolved around a flat earth. Don’t get me wrong, in view of lack of our own personal information in making a decision we must look at information provided by others. I do not get flu shots. After several attempts at getting a flu shot and then getting the flu, I finally decided to stop getting them. Yup, I do get my one cold in the winter… but not the flu… I haven’t had the flu in 10 years… T
That’s personal experience and understanding my own body. The definition of insanity is get a flu shot, get the flu, and get another flu shot next year hoping for a different outcome.

I agree Jeanne. As a health care profession- our most basic, but important objective guiding effective care is through the provision of individualised, evidenced based interventions. This means that our care should also be supported by current, modernised and reliable research and evidence. This doesn’t always happen, but it does differentiate bio-medicine health and allied health services from alternative methods (although they do have positives). This is inclusive of the provision of vaccine.

Lol.. stop writing skewed and dangerous information.

I have not had a Flu shot in 15 years, and i dont plan on one in 15 more years. I get the Flu 1 day out of the year, i have not died from it. i have been given medications which boosted my Sugar Levels to unreal proportions, and called a baby and threatened to be reported to my insurance company if i dont take them. Having kidney issues, my doctor now gives me substandard care because i refused to take Kidney cancer causing Actos.

If a child is having serious medical problems, i agree they should be treated by a medical facility. i cant really agree with withholding anything medical from them, but i wouldn’t wish death on anyone for refusing it. Many people in these days live without the hospitals, and they do just fine. many medications can make you more ill, and i can testify to that, as i am a victim of my doctors ignorance and abuse.

        • Michelle says:

If your “flue” last for 1 day, then you did NOT have influenza, which is what the vaccine is for. Vomiting or diarrhea for 1 day is FOOD POISONING… poorly prepared or contaminated food. Usually caused by BAD food hygiene.

          • Jeff Walters says:

Thank You!!!! You have common sense, WOW how refreshing! People always say they have the flu when they get sick and throw up for a couple of days. That’s not the flu, more likely food poisoning like you say. I have experienced actual influenza twice in my life. Both times I was delirious and mostly unconscious for 48 to 72 hours. I laid on the floor in misery with chills and fever and didn’t move except to go to the bathroom to throw up or have diarrhea. Actual influenza is a serious thing that can kill you and it is trivialized by how often people say they have the flu, when it’s actually not.

        • MythEater says:

Influenza lasts 7-10 days and 3-4 of those days are characterised by high fever, extreme muscle and joint aches, and chills. You will be so sick you can barely get out of bed to go get a glass of water. If you’re young and healthy, you’re right, it probably won’t kill you. However, you are contagious for 2 days before you get symptoms. In those two days you are giving this virus to either people at risk of lethal complications (children, the elderly, immunocompromised) OR to people that are in contact with those people. Hopefully those people are immunized and will not pass YOUR flu onto people that it will kill.

    • Michelle says:

AGREED! It is IGNORANCE like this that KILLS! It is these people who end up spreading these diseases to those least able to fight off infection; the elderly, very young, and those with compromised immune systems. They may be healthy enough not to have to worry about a ‘casual’ case of influenza, but someone with asthma, heart disease, copd (just as examples) are in extreme danger from even colds.

Thank you so much for doing the research that I am no longer able to do or even read properly and for presenting it in such a way that my addled brain can understand.

My one and only flu shot was around 22 years ago. I got really sick soon after (I can’t be precise because my memory is very poor – both long term and short term).

After 18 months having every test known to man with no answers, my GP (London) finally and very reluctantly diagnosed ME. It’s now more commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Since then I’ve also been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and other nervous system conditions.

Through years of Traditional Chinese Medicine I got well enough to go back to work for 18 years. Now I have cancer (in remission thank god) and am taking – or maybe not – some really nasty drugs for the next 5-10 years on top of the other conditions.

If I had a way to go back 22.01 years, I would not have that injection. There is no way of proving it caused my nervous system, endocrine and immune system collapse but I feel what I feel. Some will call me deluded. Let them.

  124. Tess Howard says:

This is a good example of how you cannot trust the information provision of the internet. Especially without sufficient critical analysis. Its misleading and dangerous. E.g. side effects incidents of vaccinations vs actual disease- would you really rather take your chances with hep c or the very low common vaccine side effects? The new epidemic of some common influenzas + whopping cough do correspond with the newly decreasing rate of vaccine uptakes (in NSW Australia). So by all means make an evidence based decision- however be aware that your decision may be influenced by your communities current prevalence of certain diseases and there corresponding rates of vaccination. Would you go live in a 3rd world country with your children, with higher incidents of certain diseases with no prior vaccination protection? Maybe you would.

The fact is historically our mortality rates dramatically increased after the provision of vaccinations. Better living standards where associated with a more dramatic increase is mortality rates. Medicine does not have all the answers. And a health balanced lifestyle is more important that medical interventions. However ensure your decision is evidence based, understand how the contextual factors will influence your decision (also be aware how your decision may impact the community) and really statistics will speak for themselves

    IDIOT comes to mind!
I must be the LUCKIEST damned individual in the world. It only works in 1.5 adults? Considering I teach, am over 45, and have been exposed DOZENS of times each year, and have NEVER gotten the flu after being vaccinated, luck must have something to do with it. Guess we know WHO is actually manipulating data here.
2ndly, the ‘list of ingredients’ is HIGHLY inaccurate. That is a cumulative list of all things that have been used in vaccines since the start of vaccines. They are NOT all in that one vaccine, and several aren’t even used any more. Additionally, you are exposed to most of the ‘toxins’ listed their every time you go out. Guess what, every time you eat your supposedly healthy “organic” food, you eat more toxins then you get from a vaccine, even a life time of vaccines; the food is coated in heavy metals from the coal burning power plants down wind of the farms. Your bandaids, first aid sprays and other infection preventing tactics are putting HIGH levels of several of those ‘toxins’ directly into you. But hey, continued ignorance is much easier than being responsible!
And of course, it is sooo much easier to report those that got sick from that shot than the HUNDREDS that die from the flu, suffer permanent brain damage, neurological damage, as well as permanent damage to various internal organs. The CHANCE of this happening if you do get the flu is MUCH higher than the chance of something happening if you get the shot.
Again, soo easy to find excuses to not do something you want to do in the first place. IGNORANCE and the spread of manipulated misinformation is just plain IRRESPONSIBLE!

Thanks for a great article Daisy. To answer your question, I’ll certainly never take a flu shot!

For starters, there are so many choices – in 2013 there are about 12 different options. How am I, clearly a non-scientist, supposed to assess the differences?

I will not accept something for which the manufacturer has been absolved from all liability. That would be very dangerous.

I get enough toxins in the environment. I don’t want any more.

I haven’t had the flu for so long I can’t remember. Why would I want to put that stuff into my blood stream?

The flu shot with the active virus could endanger a newborn who is unprotected! That would be irresponsible.

    • Ang says:

The flu shot in not live. its an inactive, the flu mist is a live attinuated virus. But neither are harmful. They are both very, very low dose but very necessary. They are both necessary to make you immune. And to protect those around you who cannot get the vaccine ie- infants, from potential death associated with complications if they get the flu. And there are no choices. The CDC puts out what vaccine you should have to cover the strains they think are going to be the worse… And this is done through scientific, medical research.

  132. Stacy says:

I know this might sound weird , but I am not allergic to anything and I received the flu shot about 4 weeks ago. I did have an allergic reaction to it within the hour and my ears closed up as well as my throat and tongue. They asked if I was allergic to eggs, which I am not. Its now 4 weeks later and I am having problems with mostly everything I eat. If I stay away from most foods and just eat fruit and veggies, I am ok. But anything with egg in it, or wheat, pasta etc. my ears start to hurt and I just don’t really feel well. Will this go away?

    • Daisy Luther says:

Stacy – My youngest daughter suffers from egg allergies. When she has a reaction, over the next week or so, she reacts to trace amounts that wouldn’t normally bother her. Her immune response is in overdrive. I give her elderberry extract a couple of times per day – this generally gets the response under control so that her body normalizes.

I’m really sorry to hear that you are having this reaction. Best of luck to you!

  133. Ang says:

This is the most ignoramus thing I’ve ever read. Really?!? You people believe this. First of all, it’s far from accurate. Second of all, the flu shot saves millions of lives. By not getting the flu shot you are putting an innocent infant, someone’s grandma, or a cancer victim in harms way… If you pass the flu to them- they could die. Diseases and illnesses are no longer epidemics because of vaccinations! Polio. Tetanus. Measles. There are very valid and important reasons to vaccinate yourself and your children. Yes, you may be sore and ache, run a fever, or have a local reaction… There are going to be reactions. This is your body and immune system responding to the antibodies. All a lot better than death, blindness, paralysis… From some of the diseases out there. And nothing in the article presents good reasons not to!!!

So unlike you, I am a student health care professional with university education in biology and chemistry. I am not a pharmacist, physician and my issues with big pharma I am sure you and I can agree on. However, the points you are making here are inaccurate but since you are a mom that has taken time to attempt to find valuable information, I have decided to take the time and give you accurate information from sources that lay people simply do not have access to.
      Point One: It doesn’t work
The article that cites an approximate 60% efficacy was published in the Lancet, which is a peer-reviewed medical journal. This means articles and research are analyzed with a fine toothed comb by a board of medical professionals before publishing. The findings with this study are consistent with multiple other studies with the same credible sourcing (I know this from personally looking through a medical journal database only accessible to health care professionals). Natural News, on the other hand, is an illegitimate source. You can see by the many ads that this “news” is funded by “health” products. The role of these sorts of online websites is to create fear and mistrust to traditional medicine to help sell these products. The influenza shot IS approximately 60% effective as per these following peer-reviewed journal articles (there’s more by the way):

The link the article provides to the lancet is not the same study they quoting. In fact, I am unable to find this study since they do not reference it.
      Point Two: Dangerous ingredients
Firstly, many things are extremely toxic to the human body in some quantities and beneficial in others (zinc, copper, selenium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, many medications, the list goes on). Items such as aluminum, mercury etc are elements and already exist in our bodies in trace elements. If you’re concerned about mercury, you might want to stay away from fish by the way. I don’t have the time or energy to explain every ingredient but I will give a few examples. Streptomycin causes otoxicity (usually reversible by the way) in high doses. I am talking about patients with sepsis (systemic infections) that are on IV antibiotics in very high doses. Those doses don’t exist in vaccines (these applies to all antibiotics you mentioned by the way). Phenol is a classification of organic compounds, like alcohol. When you think alcohol, you probably think of ethyl alcohol but there’s many kinds some more toxic than others but it really just means in has a particular COH configuration. Without boring you on the particular of biochemistry, saying that “concentration camp phenol” is in vaccines is the equivalent of saying your vodka contains anti-freeze instead of ethyl alcohol. The preservative formaldehyde exists naturally in your body at the levels at exist in vaccine. Thimerosal was once unjustly linked to autism by a guy that falsified a study on the MMR vaccine because he had a patent pending for a single measle vaccine. He was convicted of fraud for this. Since then, hundreds of studies have disproven any negative link of thimerosal to health effects but it was removed out of all childhood vaccines because the misinformation was difficult to correct. It still exists in multi-dose flu vials, but you can request single-dose vaccines that do not contain this.
      Point Three: Side-Effects
The fever associated with vaccines are very mild (within one degree) and are extremely unlikely to cause a seizure unless there’s an underlying disorder. However, the flu causes moderate to high fevers and EXPONENTIALLY increases the risk of seizure. Children die from the flu, they do not die from the flu vaccine. The life-threatening allergic reaction (aka anaphylaxis) is not only rare but treatable. This is why you’re supposed to stay around the office for fifteen minutes. Every practitioner that gives the flu shot has injectable epinephrine and Benadryl that will stabilise this reaction until you get to a hospital. Any one with a serious bee or peanut allergy can tell you that as long as you are prepared with epinephrine your life will and can be saved. Now, the Guillain-Barre Syndrome is also extremely rare with the flu vaccine but exponentially more likely with the flu infection. Actually, it’s a possibility any time you are infected with a virus. You are much, much, much more likely to get this syndrome from the flu than the vaccine. So if you’re scared of contracting GBS, I suggest getting a flu vaccine (this is the same disorder mentioned in your other example). The adverse events you listed are based on correlation not cause and effect. I’m not going to explain the finer points of data analyses but the first thing you’re missing is what is the total number of people that have been vaccinated over the time of these reports? Probably millions. How many of the ER visits were even necessary? Fewer than 1% may be reported but that includes a sore arm. If you see a health care professional about a reaction, they are obligated to report to the CDC so any serious reactions are certainly included in those numbers.
      Point Four: The FDA
Can’t argue there, I don’t like them either. I actually don’t like them for being so quick to take medications OFF the market.
      Point Five: The media
The media actually pushes the anti-vaccine hype just as much. Part of the reason I am commenting here is because the media has skewed information for consumers so much around this topic. Your comment on antidepressant is interesting since I just did a school assignment commenting on how the media has been criticising the overprescription of antidepressants and minimising the consequences of mental illness.

  134. Laura says:

I won’t get the flu shot. When I joined the military I had to get a bunch of vaccines. Prior to joining the military I only had one allergy my entire life. Since then I started became allergic to several things while in the military and while on different meds my list of allergies and chemical sensitivities has been ever increasing.
I had a niece who died from a vaccine and it WAS PROVEN that it was the vaccine. From the time she received the vaccine until she passed away she suffered from intractable seizure disorder. She was developing perfectly until that shot. Her first seizure was a status seizure when she was 7 months old. It took the hospital ER over 25 minutes to stop her seizure and from that point on she had seizures everyday until she died at 9 years old. She seized up to 80% of the day for the few months of so with varying types of seizures. This was also proven. They were drop seizure, stare seizures, clonic seizures, tonic clonic seizures and some seizures that were only inherent to her alone. She had every type that existed because of the vaccines. My son and another niece had a seizure from their first vaccines. I am extremely thankful it stopped at the one for both of them. I never got those vaccines again for him.
Almost every time my Dad used to get his flu vaccine he would get so sick he would have been better of had he gotten the flu itself. He FINALLY stopped getting the vaccine after he almost ended up in the hospital. Throughout his life he seldom got sick. I remember once when I was 9, when he got the flu vaccines and when he was dieing from cancer. Those were the only times in my life that I know of my Dad getting sick. So even if I never read anything about vaccines… why would I get a vaccine.

I’m giving you a standing ovation for this one! Awesome blog, and so well said and organized. This is being bookmarked. Thank you!

  136. Carageenan Moore says:

The author admits that she knows nothing about medicine and trusts nobody in the CDC, FDA or media, but wants to give advice about flu shots. Yes, there are stories about people who got ill from a flu shot, but researchers know that the small incidence of problems is outweighed by the avoidance of severe epidemics.

Please, people: Ask your doctor. If they recommend a flu shot, get one.

Oh, and please watch this news report, including an interview with Desiree Jennings, before you accept the idea that she’s a casualty of flu shots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N45-famr_Zk

  137. Julie says:

“1.5%. Let that sink in. That means that you have a 98.5% chance it WON’T work.”

No…that’s not how the math works… The flu shot protects 1.5% (actually, if you read the paper, it’s 4.3%…not sure where you made up 1.5% from) of adults, INDEPENDENT OF EXPOSURE, from getting the flu, but only 6% of the population was going to get the flu to begin with. 4.3/6 is a 72% effectiveness. So that’s only a 28% chance that it won’t work.

  138. nh says:

There’s a lot of poor information here but I just want to make a few points that are perhaps the most misunderstood.

    1) To clarify the Lancet report, “60% effectiveness” is derived from the reduction of influenza from 2.7/100 down to 1.2/100.. which is totally correct, basic math. Put another way, you only have a 2.7% chance of getting influenza. If you have a vaccine that drops to 1.2%. That may not sound impressive to you, but over a population of 200 million adults that amounts to 3 million less people getting the flu.

    2) Adults are the least likely to get sick or to have severe complications from getting the flu. “natural” remedies may help your immune system fight off the flu, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t carrying the virus and transmitting it to others. Adults are the most likely to transmit the virus around. You can be proud of your average healthy immune system all you want, but without the vaccine you’re likely playing a role in spreading it to others… old people, children etc for whom the flu can be very serious. This is the important point of vaccines, they’re not just for selfish little you.. they are to help shield society at-large, particularly the elderly and very young.

    3) You can think that all scientists and doctors and the FDA are part of a huge heartless conspiracy theory that’s completely designed around profits at the expense of the health of generations of children (including their own), but to then turn around and put your trust in someone like Mike Adams at “naturalnews” whose page is full of ads and endorsements for what are essentially snake oil remedies is particularly confounding. A man that posits (in the same article) that the purpose of vaccines is “To permanently alter the human gene pool and “weed out” those humans who are stupid enough to fall for vaccine propaganda.”. It’s an illogical and moronic viewpoint by a man who profits off of the people he can scare.

  139. Sarah says:

I am appalled by the information in this article. Your disclaimer of being “just a mom with an internet connection” speaks to the fact that you have absolutely NO knowledge of anything valid related to the flu vaccine. I’m a pharmacy student in my 6th year of 7 (and I will have a doctorate degree to my name when I graduate) and these claims are grossly outrageous.

The flu vaccine that is administered is 0.5 mL in volume…that’s 1/10 of a teaspoonful. The amount of any one of these substances in the vaccine is hardly enough to cause all these “terrible” effects you’re speaking to. I’d like to address a few of them specifically.

1-You mention aluminum as one of the ingredients. I suggest you avoid TUMS or any other antacid products, because most of them contain aluminum to aide your indigestion and contain far greater aluminum than what’s in a 0.5 mL flu vaccine.

2-Polysorbate 80-I hope you avoid ice cream and milk products, because I’m sure there’s more polysorbate 80 in a scoop of ice cream or a glass of milk than in a 0.5 mL flu vaccine. If you do avoid those products, enjoy getting osteoporosis from a lack of calcium.

3-Streptomycin, neomycin, and gentamicin-I will not deny that they cause hearing loss, blindness, and deafness, respectively, but these effects come at toxic levels of these medications that are used to treat very serious infections in the hospital. The (safe) maximum daily dose of gentamicin for a 155-pound adult is up to 350 mg per day; there’s no way a 0.5 mL flu vaccine could contain this much gentamicin.

I’m not saying the flu vaccine does not come with side effects; a very small percentage of patients experience an anaphylactic reaction (usually due to an allergy), which is why pharmacists are required to be CPR certified each year before they can administer flu shots. However, for the vast majority of the population, the most they experience is soreness and redness at the site where the vaccine was injected.

The nasal vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine, so it may cause more effects than the injected vaccine, which is inactivated. A live attenuated vaccine contains a small amount of the active virus that your immune system recognizes and produces antigens against, so that if you are infected with that strain of the flu, your body recognizes it and destroys it before you become completely infected with the flu. Because it is live, you experience some of the effects of the flu before your body has a chance to react to it with antigens. As your body reacts to the virus and makes antigens, it combats the virus and the symptoms subside. An inactivated vaccine still introduces your body to the viruses, but since it is inactivated, you don’t experience the effects and your body creates antigens against the viruses to protect you in the future.

I’m not saying the flu shot is 100% safe or effective, but the benefits definitely outweigh the risks.

I would also like to comment on your statement that anything with hype or that is made mandatory cannot be good. I would like to ask if you use a seat belt, or if you took a driving test to obtain your driver’s license, or if you think cocaine should be legal, because all of those things (and many more) are mandatory for the safety of all of us in this country. The media convey the importance of the flu shot because it is beneficial, and they are trying to keep the population informed.

Next, the FDA does not approve medications simply because a drug company has “money and clout.” Medications must go through 4 phases of testing and trials before a company can even present it to the FDA for approval. This includes pre-clinical animal testing and clinical trials in humans to show the safety and efficacy of a medication. The Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act of 1938 requires companies to prove the safety as well as efficacy of medications, after the tragedy with sulfanilamide, which caused more than 100 deaths.

The flu shot does not prevent all strains of the flu; that would be impossible. The flu is a virus, and a virus replicates so quickly that it often makes mistakes during the replication process. These mistakes are what lead to the hundreds and hundreds of different flu viruses a person could become infected with. The flu shot has historically protected against 3 strains of the flu, although this year, a quadravalent vaccine is available that protects against 4 strains. The manufacturers of the flu vaccine predict the strains that are likely to cause illness and create the vaccine to protect against those. These strains are those which will cause vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, and other symptoms of the flu that keep people home from work, school, etc.

Yes, you can still get sick after you get the flu shot. But you have one of the strains that the flu shot does not cover. The virus that you have will also not be as severe as the full-fledged flu. You may get a runny nose, a cough, some head congestion, or cough up phlegm, but these symptoms will resolve in a week or two with rest, hydration, and other over-the-counter medications to make living more manageable.

I hope your article doesn’t reach too many people, because you’ve done nothing but contradict everything us pharmacists, doctors, and nurses (with genuine credentials in the form of degrees of higher education) do every day-try to keep people well, prevent the spread of the flu, and not spread false information.

Dear Sarah, and all the other intelligent, logical people who have left comments on this site. I honestly do hope that your well written arguments reach someone… at least those that are on the fence, but I sincerely doubt that they will fall on anything but deaf ears with the majority of this crowd. These peiplehave taken a fairytale dogmatic approach to this issue and Vaccines are their Satan! They argue about it the same way that they would if you told a 3 year old that Santa Clause was not real. There really is no point to waste time to try to convince them. Every argument they make is a tautology. They have a religion and that religion is anti-vax, and Jenny McCarthy is their MMessiah. It’s just sad that people that are so misguided have the potential to do so much damage. But hey, It’s not the first time. We had The Crusades, Witch Burnings and a host of other things that people blindly believed in… I suppose someone’s gotta do it. I’m just glad it isn’t me ;-)

    • Jeff Walters says:

If the FDA is so wonderful, and not just a willing stooge for the big drug companies, and if their testing is so stringent, explain why they routinely recall drugs that they have already approved because of dangerous and unforeseen side effects?

Please take some time and become one of the medical professionals who have not been propagandized so much they cannot see what is PLAINLY before their eyes.

What you are regurgitating are thoughts that ARE NOT YOUR OWN. Please take the time to check out ONE of them. Don’t believe me, take the time to check out the evidence and find the truth.

If you but take a little time this protocol will demonstrate the following.

The CDC has CONTINUOUSLY overstated the mortality of seasonal influenza often by over 100 fold. For many decades the CDC told us each and every year that influenza killed 36,000 of us each year. They are NOW saying they have no idea how many die from the seasonal flu. We know it is less than 700/year for MOST years, perhaps MUCH less if based on serological results. Only slightly overstated figures from the UK imply less than 200/year die in the USA from influenza A or B. Based on serological results my guess is it is a mere handful.

I’ll say this, kudos to Daisy for approving comments by all the people telling her how wrong she is.

I’ll repeat what I said above: Don’t trust some random blogger either way. Go ask you doctor if you should get a flu shot, and follow their advice.

  141. Darwyn says:

I was initially going to write a logical and thorough rebuttal to the points made in your article. However as I re-read I quickly realized that that was completely useless as this article was not written by a logical person. So I decided to take a slightly more lowbrow approach. It is quite obvious that you are not trying to inform anyone. The so called “research” that you claim you did is a frolic in the land of confirmation bias. All your sources are completely one sided and loaded. Plus loaded statements like “wade through the abstract” that are obviously designed to make the reader feel like they are probably not smart enough to handle scientific literature (but lucky for them you are here to do it for them and lay it out) prove that you are just pushing an agenda. I especially love the FDA rant. Yes, Let’s get rid of the organization that makes sure that there is no ethylene glycol in our cough syrup and no cocaine in our soft drinks (I am still a little mad at them about the latter). If you really are a mother I believe it’s about time child protective services had a little look into your household. Or better yet why don’t you and your unvaccinated children move to India, and enjoy your polio. In reality I don’t actually believe you are who you say you are. The structure of this “article” reminds me a little too much of one of those late night “things the drug companies don’t want you to know” infomercials. My guess is you are one of the marketing geniuses (believe me, I use that term very, very, very lightly) at Natural News, and are just trying to sell more of whatever it is you propaganda slingers sell. In fact I bet you and your kids are vaccinated and this is just what you do for a buck. If that is the case, I understand… The economy’s crappy. Good day.

  142. W says:

First, all of these examples of negative side effects are extremely rare. Second, nothing is fool proof nor 100% effective, however I’ll take the opinion of a medical researcher on the most likely flu virus than some random person on the internet. Third, if the flu shot is so terrible why would most insurance companies offer it for free? Lastly, based on your own admission, all of this research was done via the internet and is not based on any scientific fact…it’s basically like saying I have a college degree from Wikipedia. It is your opinion on whether or not to immunize your children, however it is wrong to use Internet hysteria as “fact” to scare others into making a poorly informed decision. I would like to ask if you feel the same way about other, more deadly viruses (like polio) and if you think people should be immunized or not.

  143. Gordon Browning, Ph.D. says:

I find it interesting that all the original postulates presented by Jenner have been scientifically disproved. In other words, vaccination is a total farce, as a health measure. It is a total success as a profits generator for pharmacy companies, and the physicians who have become addicted to the profits generated by selling “shots” to its misinformed patient base.

An excellent explanation of the fraud that medicine entitles “vaccination” is found in the volume, “Vaccination Is Not Immunization,” 3rd Ed. Third Edition (2013) by Dr. Tim O’Shea. Both the book and the Kindle Edition can be bought from AMAZON, on-line.

The fine print in the explanation of the flu shot states that the chance of death from the flu shot is greater than the chance of death from the flu. Welcome to modern medicine (a continuation of the inhumane experimentation done by Dr. Mengele types in the WWII NAZI extermination camps.)

    • Lou says:

      “Vaccination Is Not Immunization,”

Yes this is a KEY mistruth.

      Natural Immunity and “Vaccination”

“I would like to begin by proposing that we use the terms vaccinated and unvaccinated instead of immunized and unimmunized, since the basis of the vaccination controversy is the belief of many parents that the vaccines do not produce a true immunity’, but rather act in some other fashion–or, in my view, that they act immunosuppressively.” Doctor Richard Moskowitz, MD

  144. Jeff Walters says:

I haven’t had the flu for 19 years, probably because I have had almost every type of flu known before that and gained immunity. About 10 years ago I let my Doctor talk me into getting a flu shot. While I can’t say it gave me the flu, it did cause me to be sick and miserable for about 4 days. Nausea, diarrhea, chills and fever etc. So, NO I will not get the flu shot and I don’t care how much all my liberal idiotic neighbors try to shame me into it.

  145. Peter says:

    Should Read this.

  146. Ian Bergeron says:

You have allowed yourself to be mislead.
As you stated about yourself “I’m not a chemist, a physician or someone with an advanced degree in biology. I’m just a mom with an internet connection.” Why would you assume that you can clearly understand the chemical, biological, or medical information presented to you. I will try to sum up everything that is wrong with your post in one simple statement, I would not ingest pure hydrogen. However, mixed in the correct proportions with oxygen, I’ll use it to make my coffee.

  147. D says:

Incredible. This is one of the dumbest things I have ever read. I, frankly, cannot wait until a truly horrific strain breaks out and all these self righteous herbalists find out the truth about science versus stupidity.

  148. Roxana says:

I did not even finish your article. With the first three reasons I was on your side. Besides, the only times I’ve actually had the flu has been the times I actually took the flu shot.

I remember why I stopped doing it too. My own doctor explained to me the thing you said about the guessing which viruses are going to hit in a given year. I know medicine is mostly guesswork anyway, and that their main job is to stop what is killing you before it does, but to hear an actual doctor tell me how they come up with the vaccine itself was enough for me not to do that again. Sure enough, that was my last flu season.

    Thank you for the info.

  149. Amanda says:

I do not take the flu shot nor give it to my children. Doctors are not pleased with my decision. Why? Because of gut instinct.

  150. john davis says:

There are some highly specific immunizations that are lifesaving, but the “flu vaccine” is not one of them. It’s a “shot in the dark” as to whether it will actually be beneficial, and most likely is merely a way to line the pockets of the big Pharma co’s. Vaccines like this merely weaken ones immune system to when it is most needed, and perhaps could actually cause “death” to the recipient, and could possibly be the cause of many cancers that people contract as a result of the “weakened” immune system from so many vaccines which may not be appropriate.

  151. Price says:

A flu-shot is essentially a vaccine for the flu, a vaccine introduces your body to germs or bacteria to build up your immune system. I met a germaphobe who avoided the shot for ages and when he finally got it hit him like a train and was sick forever.

  152. Elliott says:

I’ve been getting my annual flu shot for over 15 years and have yet to get the flu since then. I know it works because I have been in direct contact with others suffering from the flu and never came down with it.
After having a few bad bouts with the flu as a child (one from a hospital bed) I don’t hesitate to get my annual shot.

  153. Trevor says:

Before I came to this site looking for what is in the flu shot. The one I am very wary about is the extremely strong antibiotic Gentamicin.
Prior to looking at this site I looked at this article:

    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2012/09/18/flu-shot-increases-flu-illness.aspx

Whether you take a shot or not I think you should look at the article.

In Australia H1N1 is rampant and people who took the shot a few years ago have copt it bad.

I just wish we had a world that would look at prevention rather cure.

Flu is a mutant disease from animals. Swine that live disgusting environments in China (and other countries) where humans rub up against them and do not properly cook the flesh and then the exposed human mutates it. If proper pig to human hygiene was carried out, we would not get it. (better still if no one ate it nor kept them in their backyard swine flu would be gone).
Bird flu is sneaky. The hidden knowledge is that yes migratory birds can transport it and give it to domestic ducks and chooks. Again if hygiene is good it is rare that it will cross over to humans. What people do not know is the mutation is occuring because some asian cultures drink the chook blood. Then the virus figures how to break through into human cells and breed.

H in H1N1 for example stands for the strain of hemaglutinnic part of the virus (the bit that attackes your blood and gives you pain all over) The N part is to do neuraminidase. Really complicated but the mucus membrains of airways are rich in Sialic Acids and the neuraminidase bashes its way through the mucus and into our lung cells and airways walls.

  154. Lou says:

If you take a little time to explore the flu evidence you may come to these conclusions on “the flu”.

The bottom line on the “Seasonal Flu” is you do NOT want protection from ONLY the seasonal flu virus. You want protection from ALL VIRAL infection. The “Seasonal Flu” is a minor, UNKNOWABLE apriori, subset of VIRAL INFECTION.

Vitamins D and C, in ADEQUATE AMOUNTS will protect you from ALL VIRAL INFECTIONS.

It is just this simple and difficult.

  155. Luscia says:

I lived without flu shots and all this new vaccines that are coming up today, I was very healthy, I never even got sick, since I started taking flu shots I get flu 3 – 4 times a year! I am concerned about this and I would rather stay away after reading what it contains and how ineffective the flu vaccine is! Well this is business! That’s my feeling.

  156. Jessica says:

Very great article! Definitely shared on Facebook. I agree with you 100% on everything in here, including the section dealing with the FDA. I don’t get flu shots and have never gotten the flu!

  157. Lee says:

Check the source “natural news.” A quick wiki search and read will give you everything you need to know about this authors source and completely discredit any information taken from “natural news.” Ask your pediatrician if the vaccination is beneficial, as long as they aren’t licensed in some bs. You’ve never heard of like holistic medicine. If they are you should check quack.com!!

  158. Hadmyshots says:

At least there were some sane, educated voices here trying to be heard through the nonsense and superstition. I can’t help but cringe whenever anybody boasts of having done “research” which turns out to be Google searches for fringe opinions supporting their own.
The paranoia level here is over the top. It’s fine to ask questions about medical treatment, but let’s get a grip! In all your brilliant research, have you ever checked out how many children suffered, were permanently damaged or died from now preventable diseases like polio, measles, scarlet fever, and all the rest that we vaccinate for? The reason these diseases seldom strike in the U.S. now is because enough intelligent people have taken the shots so the risk of you encountering the germs is greatly reduced. And, you clever vaccination-haters, if the people around you are getting flu shots, your exposure is reduced as well. So guess what- it isn’t some magical root you’re chewing on that keeps you healthy; but the herd immunity provided to you by the responsible adults in the population. Non-vaccinators are a threat to public health, plain and simple.

  159. Sylvia says:

Was reading htrough the commetns and saw a lot of debate of “hippie” vs “real” medicine. I know that huffingtonpost is not the most reliable source. But this basically covers what a naturopathic doctor is:

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-stanclift-nd/naturopathic-doctors_b_1923371.html

Natural medicine works but they also work with “regular” doctors. The two sides aren’t against each other but work with each other. Just watch out for the unlicensed “naturopaths” who aren’t allowed to practice medicine and really have no idea what they’re talking about out.

  160. Julie says:

As a healthcare provider who spends her days in a small clinic that this time of year is filled with miserably sick people with the flu who cough in my face and occasionally (like this last weekend), throw up on me, I so often am deeply grateful for that flu shot I always take in September. I have yet to have the flu and my exposure is high, high, high! It at least must be working for me!! I’ll take my chances with the “badness” of the vaccine as it has so many advantages for me. My strongest vaccine advocates are my patients who have been horribly sick with influenza and don’t want to go there again, including one who spent 3 months in ICU on a ventilator last year, with H1N1. When he came for his flu shot this year he said his situation made flu shot believers out of his entire workplace. I realize there are a lot of controversies concerning vaccines and that “to do” or “not to do” is a very personal decision. It frustrates me though when poorly informed people in the “not to do” camp go on a campaign to ensure that others make their same choice. I don’t understand a person’s need to do that…maybe makes them feel better to know that others will die of the diseases along with their un-vaccinated selves?
